Good News & Bad News
« on: April 30, 2015, 08:51:23 PM »
Well....It's a sunny day up here North of Boston so I decided to kick-over the GT300i. One push & she started right-up. The bad news is my seat lock will not open up. I've had issues with my seat locking into place when I tried to close it. Last year my Kymco dealer added a washer & that help it some. Now I have to bring it to the dealer & god knows what it's going to cost me. If it's a broken cable....I would think that's some labor time to get that done. I'm glad I fill my tank to the top before I store it for the Winter!

I wonder just how they're going to get the seat open. Oh well.....Toys cost money.

Sorry you're having problems, Mass. Hope they can get it fixed without too much expense and hassle. I just hope my seat release never goes south with no direct key release. I have a PCH 150, so you know what I'm talking about.

GLV55: I'm bringing her in tomorrow morning to my Kymco dealer. Fingers crossed that it won't cost me a lung for the repair/replacement. The PCH125 is a great scooter for the money! I paid $1800.00 for her OTD (not including taxes) I bought it for my wife to keep @ my parents home in Florida. We only go down about 4 times a year. I use the SYM HD200 down there.

I couldn't bring myself to buy the Agility over the Lance PCH 125 (BTW...Lance didn't have the 150cc engine for sale @ the time) There's a Lance/SYM dealer about 10 miles away vs. the Kymco @ 30+ miles. IMHO the PCH & the Cabo (very sweet looking) is the best value scooter out there today.

I would think a seat latch
adjustment would be simple.
Try sitting on the seat and turning the release knob. Hold the release knob in the open position and stand and raise the seat.
Adjusting and/or shimming the latch should not be hard to do.

How I opened my seat ,  I held the key to release the seat , and I whacked the seat with my hand, right over the seat lock, only one side wont open,.  sitting on it may work too,.

Mass try spraying the locking mechanism where the seat latches with some wd40 and see if it helps.

Great news! I dropped off my GT300i yesterday morning @ the dealer. I needed an inspection sticker (MA. requires one each year) & oil change (BTW...Use to do all my oil changes but simply don't have the time anymore) I received a call about 2:00PM telling me everything is done. I said "Even my seat latch?" He said yes, I guess it just needed to be lubricated. I don't know how they got the seat opened in the 1st place. They charged be $10.00 for the seat, $15.00 for the inspection sticker & $25.00 for the oil change. Not bad @ all! I do give them the oil filter (Hi-Flo #HF566) & Amsoil 10W-40W scooter oil.

I'm pumped I didn't need a new cable! Picking her up on Monday morning. Thought I would post back. Thanks for everyone's insight.

Just returned home with my GT300i. I really love this scoot! It's paid for & I won't sell her for a long time to come. Bought it new in 2012 & I have 4500+ miles on her. Never had an issue. Bummer that Kymco doesn't offer the GT300i is Silver anymore. The Burnt Orange is a hideous color IMHO & Black is decent, but not my color.

Quick question to all of you GT300i owners. Do you use a new oil filter every time you change your oil? I put on around 1500 miles a year & I do change it out every time. The HiFlo #566 cost around $3.00 per filter.

New England is warming-up!

Hi, MassScoot,

I also have a 2012 300GTi, black, 5600 miles on the odometer. Bought it new in April of '14. They don't sell too fast out here in New Mexico!

Out here in the world of constant sunshine, I don't put mine up for the winter...but I do replace the oil filter each time I change the oil. I think it's a little cost to benefit ratio! And, I change the oil every 3.000 miles.

Have a nice summer of riding up there.

You indeed should change your oil filter every oil change on every vehicle!!!!!! Disregard if your scoot has a oil "screen", these just need to be cleaned.

Karl: Must be so nice to cruise your GT300i all-year. My thoughts exactly. For the cost of $3.00 for the oil filter, it's worth changing it out @ the end of our season (October)

My wife & I own a 24' boat & on the weekends (we live on the MA. seacoast) that's what we do (short 6 month season) It's why I don't put many miles on my GT300i. Still.....I love what I have & there's no reason for an upgrade IMHO. I love the Piaggio BV350 (blows away the looks of the GT300i) but the nearest dealer is 40+ miles away. My Kymco dealer is 10 miles from my home. I'm happy overall in the end.

Here's a couple of links of our little village:
