Funny noise when first taking off.
« on: May 15, 2015, 02:31:36 PM »
Got a dumb question.
Had the scoot parked for a couple weeks, because I've been riding my new (to me) 2006 Honda Rebel.
Got the super8 back out and noticed a funny noise.
It sounds fine when running, but when I first give it gas to start moving, I am hearing an annoying rattly sound when it starts accelerating.
Once it gets going, I don't notice any funny sounds anymore. Just when I first start from a stop.
It's a Super8 150 with 4500+ miles on it.
I'll admit that I have never had the cvt cover off in that whole time (Shame on me).
I also haven't found any lose bolts anywhere that could be rattling.
Could it be something in the cvt worn out, or could it simple need to be opened up and cleaned?
When it was parked a few weeks ago, it wasn't making this noise.
Any ideas what I should look at first. I plan on opening it up on my day off this week.
Thanks in advance for any advice!

Could be normal, any time I go away from my scooter for a while and go drive it the belt and clutch sound funny because the rubber has had a chance to harden up a bit. Also the clutch could be glazed.

Thanks Bettin. That's what I'm hoping. I'm still gonna pop the cover on my day off and clean out any dirt and build up. After 4500 miles, I imagine there's a little funk inside there!

Been off here for a while, so I thought I'd give an update.
I found the rattle finally!!!
Turns out, I missed a bolt when checking for a loose one. It ended up being one of the bolts holding the plastic rear fender on the right side, just behind the exhaust. Can't believe I missed one THAT obvious! >:(
At least it wasn't anything mechanical.
Oh well.....got it all snugged up, and she's back to normal again, and not as embarrassing when leaving stop lights!  :D
I guess I've been pretty lucky since that's the first bolt to loosen up on the scoot, and it took 4500 miles and over a year to happen!
(Knocking on wood now!)  ;)

That's exactly why I threw my body away. Nothing left to rattle.

Every single bolt I have removed I have used loctite if its on the engine, or clear silicon on the body to put back on... I have found far too many bolts loose and they get loose very quickly/suddenly once they have been removed once.
