Engine light
« on: June 21, 2015, 10:42:17 PM »
I bought a 2009 500r and it runs great and full of oil but the engine light stays on. I guess some day I will take it to a dealer and see what the code is saying but everything seems fine.Has anybody had this happen?

The oil service light comes on every 4000 miles to remind you to change oil. Depress the rubber button on the right side of dash and it will reset.

It only has 3400 miles on it.The light is on the left a little pic of an engine the same in a car.

Got a repair manual and by the number of flashes and it is the TPS,but it's running fine so I'm not going to worry about it.

A reset will most likely sort it out, as I had same issue when I got my XC 500 EFI.

There is a recessed rubber button on dash.  Use a thin stick, push in firmly, hold it in continuously for about 1 min. There, fixed.
If it comes back, problem is more serious, workshop time then.

Does it need to be running or just on?

My mistake, that is oil light procedure.

CELP reset procedure is:
Have a watch or phone with seconds.
Scoot ignition off
Red engine off switch must be ON.
Scoot on centre stand
Side stand up.
Procedure starts now:
Turn ignition ON where dash lights light up.
Wait 10 seconds and then
turn throttle fully open.
After another 10 seconds,
turn throttle fully closed.
CELP flashes x 2 after 5 seconds.

Engine lamp(CELP) is now reset.

Yes key must be on, or have bike running to re-set. :-*
