2002 People 50 2T CDI Mod
« on: July 05, 2015, 12:46:21 AM »
My People 50 2T has a build tag that says February 2002. It tops out at 26mph indicated, and I would like it to go faster. I *could have sworn* the following mod was applicable to my scooter:

...but apparently it is not. I have performed the CDI cutting mod, I am every bit as deep (frankly deeper) than shown in the video, but I *see no wire* nor is my bike any bit faster.

What gives?

Maybe I'm being unclear:

Can anyone confirm that the hacksaw-method for derestricting the CDI on a 2002 (February) People 50 2T *is the appropriate method*?

Thanks.

i didn't attempt the cutting version but i did buy this CDI and it works great http://www.partsforscooters.com/169-158-Honda-Dio-CDI?sc=34&category=132416

theres a few threads somewhere on here about cutting it just use the search thingy.. they have pics if i remember right..

and im no expert compared to the other guys on here but if youre only doing 26 mph, theres probably several other things keeping your speed down, not just the CDI

Thanks for the reply. I have seen several threads plus the youtube video I linked to. To be honest, I am too afraid to cut any deeper - I think I have already cut quite deeply.

Yes, I have a variator pin (with no restriction boss) on order, and I am going to remove my exhaust to see if it is restricted as well. But I can *definitely* feel the rev limiter kick in, which is why I tackled the CDI thing first.

yeah im not sure about the 2002 exhaust (i have a 2001), but it might be gunked up with carbon bc its so old as well. i know mine is, another reason to get an after market exhaust haha.. maybe give it a cleaning when you remove it? again theres a thread on here somewhere about using lye

No you cannot cut the people 50 cdi. If it has a green wire looped to itself just unplug the green. If the cdi unit is brown and has no green wire you have to upgrade to the newer cdi unit. No mod will de restrict it.
2002 Kymco B&W 300; MRP 78MM "300CC", Naraku cam, Yoshimura rS3 exhaust, 17g Sliders, Yellow torque spring drilled airbox, stock carb #115 main #40 pj.

2001 "Yamaha" Zuma AKA MBK Booster; MHR OverRange, Dellorto 19mm BHBG, Polini "big" intake, RS-3 Rear shock, Stock cylinder.

That's what I was afraid of... there is no external loop of green wire (with connector) on mine, and at this point, I have hacked 4 or 5 *big* cuts into the CDI.

Miraculously, it still runs just fine! The down side is that the rev limiter is still firmly in place.
