Belt replacement - Gates Part Number?
« on: July 07, 2015, 02:19:49 AM »
I've got a standard Kymco/Bando 23100-keb7-9000 on the bike with about 100 miles on it. Derestricted. It needs to be replaced.

I'd like to replace it with a Gates Powerlink 729. Does anyone have the part number?

Thx,
Mike

I probably have way less than 100 miles on this belt.  Likely half that.

Can't suck much more than that. ...

How is the belt damaged? The OEM belts are the best you can get. Something is wrong on the scooter if it tore through a belt that quick. Trust me I've installed prolly 500 plus OEM belts and never had one with issues. Post a picture.

The belt width is worn down. I'll measure tonight.

It wore down so much, the forward left pulley has fallen inward on the shaft where there is no spline. At idle, this causes the pulley to fall inward and walk around. The pulley teeth are contacting the starter bendix at idle only.

Could it be possible my de-restricted bushing isn't wide enough? When I slide it over the shaft, I'm able to see there's a gap of the shaft that's unsplined. I would assume the bushing should cover this....

Anyone have bushing measurements?

Belt is 17.4mm wide. Not too far off, but worn enough to cause a problem.

Here's the gap on the splined shaft. The left pulley on the variator is falling inward, wobbling around and contacting the starter bendix.

I'm wondering if my variator boss is wide enough. Micrometer shows 35.5mm. Any thoughts?

I think I figured it out. Just called scooter therapy and had them measure how wide their derestricted boss is. It was nearly 39mm.

The new one should be here on Friday.

It looks like the crank is stripped, it should not have that gap right there. Take a picture with the variator all the way off.

There is a bit of damage to the splines and the splining on the variator pulley moving around but I'm able to reinstall the pulley smoothly. I don't think it's unusable yet.

How much labor is involved with replacing the crank?

I'll take a pic tonight of the bare crankshaft.

Crank replacement takes about 3 hours if you've done it before, all day your first time.
