Windshield scratches
« on: July 23, 2015, 01:21:43 AM »
Want to buff out some scratches on the windshield of my Downtown 300i. Anyone have any experience or advice on doing the job?

Also, I'd like to add a backrest or my Shad 29 top case. Has anyone ever added one before?

I've used liquid cleaner car waxes to buff plastics shiny smooth.
Soft cotton rag and small circles with a finger tip in the rag.
Don't be in a hurry.....
I used different brands.....milky consistency loaded with very fine
Cutting particles.

And, I'm feeling a little peculiar.

The milky cleaner wax buffed out scratches on my vintage German-made plastic VW toys -used an old cotton sock and a finger tip. Deeper scratches might be more of an issue to fix. Is there a commercial product for all of our 2-wheel windshields? Maybe call a power-sports dealer?

Use a product called "Mirror Glaze" here at least 3 different grits to remove and polish screens.

I added one to my 33L, I have one for sale for the 37 but the 29 shows to be a different backrest.

The best way I deal with scratches on plastic is to prevent them. Use Plexus and a 100% cotton cloth on your windshield.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I've heard good things about Plexus and I plan to drop by Walmart tomorrow to get some.

Anyone have any experience adding a backrest to a Shad topcaseS I'm thinking of ordering and installing this one,

http://www.accessoryinternational.com/product/shad-backrest-sh29-sh33.html

Though it doesn't cover the hinge. I'd rather this one.

but it's for a different kind/type.

Ended up using a product called Plastx

http://www.autopia-carcare.com/meg-g-12310.html?productid=meg-g-12310&channelid=FROOG&utm_source=CSEs&utm_medium=GoogleProductSearch&utm_campaign=CSE&gclid=CjwKEAjwitKtBRCt3uOYsY2v7FASJACJU5Xsuy0wrtwQ_N3VN4vLMeGVnSzkUM-l3x0tb57g2FfpMBoCxzXw_wcB#.VbTP60uCt5g

It wasn't enough to clear the scratches, so I'll need to buffer them out first. I've looked at a few instructional videos but few of them are poorly done from wet sanding (something I'd rather not do) to little to no mention of the buffering tool and material they are using.

Any suggestions would be appreciated,

-Wolf
