Rear brakes

First brake replacement for the rear at 25000. I should have done it at 20000. Inner shoe had rubbed down to bare metal....fortunately no rivets to eat into the rotor. Got a set of EBC sintered Double-H pads off ebay for about $25 including shipping, part# SFA498HH. Job was fairly simple...just loosened the exhaust but not remove it, took 2 of the front bolts holding the mud flap so it was movable. Took off the caliper from the rotor. Collapse the double cylinders with a C-clamp. The old shoes pop out with a flathead. There are no clips to worry about but you do need to make sure you "seat" the new pads into the slots...basically pushing down and and in. Nothing like new brakes and a new rear tire to make a bike feel like new again! Lesson here is to always change parts as prescribed in the owners manual. Next maintenance will be coolant change.

How does the HH pads working for you?

I am also considering the move to HH for the rear.

I am still waiting for my Goldfren S33 (HH rating) to arrive in the mail.

So far so good....I am not sure if this set is better than OEM from Kymcoparts.com but they were far less expensive and they fit perfectly. I think they feel good, have good stopping power and I have no doubt they will do every bit as good as OEM's.

Anyone know if there are any steps between removing the caliper and removing the pads? Are there any extra bolts to remove?

  did you clean the pins and put fresh grease in ,.  It does make a difference,.

I did my rear brake pads today, there are no pins to remove after the two caliper bolts (to the frame). You just use a flat screwdriver to pop the pads out and push them in. I put a bit of grease where they slide just as a precuation.
