Scooter Died on Me

About an hour ago, a few miles from home, the scooter stopped working. The starter is working. There is gas. The oil was just changed. At times it seems like it's about to start and then doesn't. Any ideas?

It's got 9k on it and the fuel filter was supposed to be changed at 7k.

Could the filter be clogged?

Sounds like a fuel filter or spark plug problem to me. It happened to me a while back so maybe start there

My spark plug cap disintegrated on me a while ago. Easy enough to check.

If you've never adjusted the valves it could be that.  Often times the bike will stall or be hard to start when warm, but start fine once cold.

It started this afternoon, I was surprised and let it run for 30 seconds.

Tried to run it later, it idled 1-2 minutes and as soon as I tried to take a trip down the driveway it stopped and wouldn't restart.

Valve or fuel problem?

The intake on the fuel filter is 3/4 full, a level I hadn't noticed before.

With more thought on this it must be a clogged fuel filter.

Take fuel filter off. If you can blow through it then it should be fine if you can't blow any air through it with your mouth then that's a sure fine sign that it is clogged up

The problem appears to not be the fuel filter, but that no gas is leaving the tank. When I unplugged the fuel hose from the intake to the filter...before there was a small trickle, and tonight nothing is coming out.

What is that about? The tank is 1/3-1/2 full.

On my agility city there is no petcock or anything to stop fuel from dripping out once the hose has been removed if the agility is exactly the same then there must be a blockage somewhere. If you have taken the hose off the fuel tank and fuel isn't out coming out then there must be a blockage inside the tank I believe there is a filter inside the tank maybe it has caught something? If the hose is still attached to the fuel tank then its much more likely a blockage in the fuel line. Narrow it down by elimination. Replace the hose it needed they don't cost much.

The agility has a petcock? Wonder why the city doesn't.

You could just look on eBay for a replacement as they are not easy to clean. If you want to try cleaning it out your best bet would be to leave it in carb cleaner all night and then blow it out maybe with with compressed air.

If it's not a petcock, what do you call the thing that screws onto the tank and has an exhaust valve for fuel and another for a vent?

I don't understand this. This is an agility autocock/petcock.

The picture is upside down. But when on the bike the top valve is for the fuel line and the bottom is for the vacuum line.

Now, I believe the fuel valve will only open to let fuel flow through it when vacuum is being applied to the bottom value. If that's the case, how does any fuel get into the fuel line so the bike can start and create vacuum?

I've taken the problem auto cock off and cleaned it. The fuel valve is very open if you blow into it. But of course I need fuel flowing out of it to start the bike.

Vacuum is created when the bike is cranking. That's why it takes a few cranks to start a bike after you drain the float bowl. It takes a little while for them to fill up.

I would check for vacuum on that line.
