That's a great idea. If only we could get that law to take effect the roads would be a lot safer I believe

I totally agree with you, Wolf. Cell phone use while driving is out of control.

Thanks GLV55. Anyone know how to get a political movement started -- or the law changing equivalent of.

Unfortunately, it's usually not a problem getting laws passed, it's the enforcement of the law that's the fly in the ointment. It will take the same time and effort to get people into the no texting frame of mind as it did to get people to become accustomed to wearing seatbelts in the 70s. Before then, everyone had the same "it doesn't matter " attitude about seatbelts as they currently do about texting.

Eventually attitudes changed on seatbelt. Maybe cars need cell phone jamming devices that are activated if the car senses only a single driver, and the car is not in park (or has come to a rest). If people's attitude can't change, let technology stop them.

In Alaska, for two years it has been law no texting in a vehicle.  It is punishable to the same standards as a DUI.  Only two cases have come out in the press, both involving vehicular homicide.  Judges seem to dismiss charges left and right if they get to court.  The first question asked of the officer is, "have you ever texted while driving.".  After one or two embarrassing times in court, the police don't pull anyone over again.  Tech lock out seems to be the only way to stop this.

Thanks Scooterdad.

Jeopardy,

Based on the police report for my crash not only didn't the cops not conduct a sobriety test for the kid who pulled in front of me, they didn't ask if he was texting/using his cell. I was pretty pissed off about that.

For something that causes so many accidents while is texting and cell phone use while driving taken so casually?

Because the cops were to busy doing it themselves it seems as though the cops don't care anymore so that leaves us scooter people to fend for ourselves

Too true. Who polices he police? Maybe a wall of shame for cops on cell phones in their cars, then post it on a a town/city's FB police page.
