Tires for People 150
« on: October 04, 2015, 01:16:23 PM »
Hello everyone. I recently purchased a 2009 Kymco People 150 and am looking to replace the tires. My goal, first and foremost, is to get tires that are an improvement over the current stock ones.  Do you think it would be OK to have the same size tires front and rear? I really want to have a  100/80/16 front and the stock tire is 80/80/16.  There are no 110/80/16 tires I am interested in putting on the rear and the 120 size may be too large.  Price is definitely an issue. I have a couple I am looking at. Do you think these would "play well" together?"

I have a 2012 People 150 and had trouble finding the right size tires for it so I finally gave in and had the local dealer pick the best tires the correct size according to their opinion. They tried the larger size on the front but it rubbed and did not have enough clearance. The original tires lasted 10,000 klm and the replacements have 8,300 klm on them and they are showing the wear pretty well, I don't think they will last any better than the OEM tires, but, they are a smoother ride and quieter. Please post what you finally decide to buy, I will be needing tires in the spring I am sure of that. My daughter is riding my scoot right now otherwise I would go out and see what brand I actually have on it.

I checked my tires and they are Shinto front SR567F and the rear is a SR568R. The OEM tires were changed at 10563 klm and the rear now has 18425 klm and it is bald, the front still is pretty good. They cost about $50 each but the OEM from Kymco cost about $100 each. A couple local dealers will charge $25 per tire to install if you buy tires from them. One local Kymco wants $141 per tire installed, that with tax would be $300 a set, kind of steep in my  opinion, still looking for a less expensive place to install because they can be bought online for about $40 each tire.

Mr.  Paul

I changed the stock tires on my GTI 300 for Michelin city grips. I'm very happy with them and the folks on this forum gave them good reviews. I would recommend them if you can get your size. I never kept my old 150 long enough to change tires, but if I did, I was going up one size in the front. Someone in this forum did it with no problem. Better handling plus some correction on a very optimistic speedometer.

The OEM and Shinto are the only two brands with this size available, there are some cut rate bottom of the line Chinese made tires on the market but they don't even look round,LOL

Thanks everyone. I got Shinto 740 tires for the front size 100/80/16 and Shinto 568 for the rear in the same size. Have not put them on yet but they sure look better than the stock tires. I am going to have them mounted tubeless.
