EFI and Initialization
« on: October 29, 2015, 02:48:40 PM »
Visited a scooter repair shop in Nashville this week and learned something that may be valuable. First, the shop has been started by Junior Padilla, mechanic and musician, full-time genius with a dynomometer for tuning scoots and motorcycles. He has extensive auto experience Especially Hondas and their early EFI. He said these early ECUs would get corrupted with extraneous data or code and the idle would get rough or wild. The fix was to re-boot the ECU. This sounds familiar and Initializing the TPS and ISP seems to do the same thing on DT300i and GTi300 scoots. My question to all here is this: is there a way to re-boot the ECU on a Kymco? Other than disconnecting the battery for thirty seconds to 30 minutes?

You members in Nashville can find JP at 2037 Jefferson St. Go visit if you haven't already.

Did some studying of DT300i wiring. Pulling the 30 amp fuse does the same thing as disconnecting the battery: kills everything including the clock. The ECU is connected to the battery through its pin 19 and the 30 amp fuse. So as far as "re-booting" the ECU the best method seems to be initializing.

I will be willing to bet the ECU will be eventually upgraded to eliminate the problem.

The 30 amp fuse powers 1. ECU, 2.regulator rectifier (or more correctly feeds back power), 3. Met-in light and 4. Combination switch ( right handlebar European lights off switch). It also powers a 15 amp fuse next to it which protects the wires for the clock, hi & low beam contacts in the hi-low beam relays.

A scooter repair shop. !!
I think for most of us, these scooter forums are our repair shops.
You're not only a good looking fellow....but a lucky one, too!
Around these parts, "rebooting an ECU" means kicking it across the shop floor.

And, I'm feeling a little peculiar.

Why, thank you, Stig! I tried your method of rebooting. Doesn't work.
