Parking Brake
« on: November 02, 2015, 02:04:23 PM »
I have downsized from the bigger Maxi Scooters; C650GT, Burgman 650, and Silverwing to a Peoples GT 300i and noticed that this scooter does not have a parking brake like the bigger scooters have. Is it not needed on the smaller scooters?
Past bikes; Peoples GT 300i (2), BMW C650GT (2), Burgman 650 (2), Honda Silverwing, Honda DN-01, Moto Guzzi Breva 1100, Suzuki V-strom 650, Honda NC700X, Suzuki GS450

Guessing it is a feature left off to keep the price down. It would be a GREAT feature on my wife's People 300i since it now has Tow-Pac "training wheels". Gotta use a wood block to keep it from rolling away!

velcro strap wrapped around the brake lever & handlebar grip, wind it up around the handlebar when not in use

If you need a parking brake with 2 wheels your in trouble. Inclines, being in 1st gear, turning the steering all way to the left, kick stand down, are all going to mess with your head and the bike. The bike will fall not thinking of all those factors and others. No bigger oh sh** moment than the feeling when that happens, your sick for a week at least.

Watched a yutoob ad for a used Burgman 650 trike...it came with a special wedge to stick behind the front brake lever - as a parking brake on this $20,000 scooter. You drop it in a front glove box when ready to move off.
The Forza and the Burgman 400 both have a parking brake.....and I use it all the time!
Very rarely find level on-street parking.
Regarding dropping a scooter when parking.... a Burgman poster warned that you should always use the side stand to turn off your scooter. He stopped, shut off the key, dismounted and dropped his Burgman. !! (90% of Burgman owners are seniors....who forget things)
What was the question again...?

And, I'm feeling a little peculiar.

These scooters have CVT transmissions, there is no first gear compression to hold the bike.
