Chinese engine??

I recall hearing or seeing something that Kymco switched their engines,  used to be of better quality but in the recent years switched to the lesser quality Chinese type. 
Can anyone confirm this?  Maybe a source as well?

Not sure how we'll know where Kymco is sourcing their engine parts.....even if we could discover the assembly point.
However, Kymco will still be standing behind the product with parts and warranty.
Regarding Chinese products.....you're probably too young to remember when "made in Japan" was synonymous wth "junk". Things change....eh? :-)

It's not stamped with 139qmb,  it's got kg10sa,  which could be a better, Kymco built 139qmb.

I see you've discovered my surgery on 49ccscoot!  The wrist pin is giving me issues at the moment,  loose in the connecting rod,  loose in the piston, but won't budge.  My assumption is it mushroomed when ran without oil...

Accept the reality that the Kymco engine is probably junk!  Installing the TaoTao Duster 139QMB engine (swap stators) would at least gain the less twitchy geometry of the Agility 12" front wheel.

After disassembling mine it seems very solid. One minor thing that stood out to me was the cam chain guides.  On an old parts engine,  one that the piston blew on one of my first scooters,  the guide was a simple plastic.  The Kymco guides were of another, denser material.  That's just a little thing I noticed.  But enough little things that are good quality add up to be a big thing of good quality!

That's the truth.Mine made to 50.000 plus befor mine broke down.

I blew up my Taiewan-made Kymco kg10sa by driving it too hard, and replaced it with an off-the-shelf Chinese 139qmb with a ScrappyDog BBK.  Everything fits and works just fine.  The big difference in Kymco 50cc machines is from the Chinese 139qmb-type carbureted kg10sa 50cc engine to the later fuel injected models, partly built in China.  The problem with the fuel injected models is you can't modify them because the fuel injection is programmed for 50cc only.  But otherwise, the quality is mostly the same if bought from a reliable vendor.  Watch out for off-market parts and engines like sold on eBay.  Anything from Kymco (or ScrappyDog) will be good quality whether made in China or Taiwan.
