Charging battery every night normal?
« on: December 04, 2015, 03:59:59 PM »
Is it normal that I have to charge my battery every night or it will not have enough juice to start only after a short time of riding.

I feel like riding it should keep a charge on the battery but I have never had a moped before.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

what year is the scoot. and how old is the battery. If the battery is more then 2 to 3 years old I would say get a new battery.they have 2 amps in a battery reg amps for running other stuff and granking amps to start the scoot. My guess the granking amps are gone they are most likely the frist to go.If a new battery don't do it then that means your stator is gone.also check for lose and clean wires.

Before you buy a battery disconnect the negative cable on the battery. With the key off connect a test light between the battery & the negative cable. If the light comes on you have something drawing on the battery. If no light buy a battery.
My wife never asked, " can you make it go faster?" until we bought a 4 stroke Moped. My reply, "yes dear"

No not normal! You need to check the battery voltage when stationary and when running. If the battery is less than 12v when not in use it is bad or not charged, it should be betting nearer 14v or more when running or it will not charge when in use.

If it is not getting a charge when running either the rectifier or stator need replacing. The rectifier is a DIY job, the stator might not be if you do not have a lot of mechanical experience. If you don't own a volt meter - take it to someone that can diagnose it for you.
