New People S 250
« on: January 01, 2010, 06:13:10 PM »
Hey all,
I just purchased my first Kymco, a People S 250.  I'm trading up from a Piaggio Fly 150 because i wanted something that could go highway speeds, and there happened to be a dealer liquidation sale of Kymcos nearby.  You'll be amazed at the price I got: for a new People S 250, with a Givi topcase, from an established dealer, $2,720 including taxes, no joke.

A question: the dealer recommended I prepare it for storage by idling it in the driveway till it ran out of gas.  In all the research I did about winterizing, that's the only time I've heard that recommended.  Is it a good idea, or better to fill it up with gas and put stabil in?  thanks!

I prefer full fuel w/ Stabil run through the scoot. This prevents condensation, and oxidation. In the spring you can drain it out for your lawn mower

nice bike man :)
that case is humongous!  2 helmets?? jeez.  I was actually tempted to splurge on this cool case they had at the dealership, I don't remember the brand but it wasn't Givi.  The cool part about it was that it had a remote unlocker that you beeped like a car alarm or something, it was rad.  I ended up going for cheap and simple though, especially since I didn't want to pay for installation or worry about it having problems.

coocase - have one on my Aprilia 200 - cadilac of top boxes for sure.  Remote open, built in alarm, nice liner, brake light, and overall quality construction and also, very helpful technical support folks - asked a couple questions, got answers same day - very on the ball.

I think I paid about twice what the original poster did for my Kymco - just my luck - makes me grimace every time I read it.  A sign of how tight things are getting?  From what I have read it seems scooter sales are way way down from a year and a half ago.  Oh well - I am sure enjoying my 250 - money well spent, even if I paid a premium price - thought I was such a good shopper too!!

Don't feel bad mate, this deal came at a really bad time for me because I had just bought my first scooter two months previously, and I still love that one, and don't have any desire to keep two.  So, now I've gotta store the old one in my garage for 5 months till spring comes and people are buying again, it's a pain.  In a recession, cash is king because you find insane deals like this.  That dealer wasn't the only small business I've heard of around here going under...

I do my share of trying to spend out of recession - but it's not working!

My father had a friend that used to say - I was 5-6 years old at the time - "The more you spend, the more you have". :) :)
