Seat stuck locked
« on: December 26, 2015, 06:17:04 PM »
Haven't used the bike in ages and found that the seat is locked in place and I can't get it to open. I don't want to twist the key too much in case it bends. Any ideas on how to get this open?

Try pushing down on the back of the seat to make sure it is 'seated' (no pun intended) correctly, then try again ?

Just a thought, have you tried turning the key to the 'on' position, push the key in/ down and turn the anti clockwise?
You never know!
Cheers,
Don.

My seat is stubborn at times, often requiring me to twist the key twice yo unlock the seat. Wish I knew of an easy fix. You may have to take it to your dealer.

If you cant open the seat ,you have to take the front end off, at the bottom of the ignition switch,  that is the end of the cable that opens the seat, open seat by pulling the cable,  once open you can adjust the cable the same as the throttle cable ,tighten it a little at a time, use a screw driver to close the latch, so you don't have to fool with the seat,

Try a shot of WD40. Run the key in and out a few times, then try it.

the adjustment cables are under the met in box on one side you will see where when the seat is up, there is a cover for adjustment on one side, I took the box out to make it easy to adjust, big old hands,

Had to bump this since my seat would not unlock today! Pushing down on key and turning to left will lock the forks, Don. I even tried that! De dee has the idea but ya don't have to uncowl the front. Turn forks to left while on the sidestand. Look up under the nose past the fork clamps to rear of ignition switch. Put your left hand on the switch to help guide your eyes. There is a skinny black cable sheath out the bottom of the switch with a chrome adjuster between the sheath and bent tube attached to the rear of the switch. The trick is to pull on the sheath in line with the direction of the cable while "working" the key to unlock. I had to pull pretty hard to actually unlock the seat. I had to pull about 4-5 times to unlock. Worked normally after all that. I did all this in the Wal-mart parking lot!

Hey Karl, sorry to hear about your problem!! that's with the key just 'in' the ignition, if you turn the key to the right as if you're firing up (dashboard lights on) then push the key in/down and turn to the left the boot releases! Well it does on mine haha  ;D
