500I Uxv exhaust mods?
« on: December 28, 2015, 07:16:36 PM »
Has anyone performed any exhaust mods such as removing baffles or reworking the tip like the rhinos. Or just plain old remove the tip for better performance? There has to be something one can do to increase the performance of these machines. I really like the machine but we need some aftermarket or factory support.

Support is pretty low. There is a video of a UXV 500i with a Supertrapp exhaust installed (youtube). You could contact that individual and see how he did it. Most likely was a universal muffler with a tab welded to fit. Supertrapp does sell a universal UTV muffler. EJK makes a FI programmer for the UXV 500i also but only list one year. Most likely that was the only year they had access to. I wouldn't be surprised if it would fit most all years of FI 500 UXV. I would contact those two and see what you can figure out. A proper exhaust fitted with a decent programmer would yield the best gains. Also cost the most!!

It's too bad support is so low. These could be some bad... machines with the right mods, the base is there. 36HP from a 500! With the right support these really could take off. Everyone loves to tinker, not everyone has 20k to slap down on the latest and greatest.

I took the baffle and small cat out of the tip of mine when I owned it. No power gains but sounded a little better. It was a 700i. Also welded a 2.5" 90 degree elbow on it. Looked good actually. Wish I could post a pic but I always says file to large.

The biggest gain I got from the 700 was to remove the air intake and replace it with a big K&N along with a custom intake. Had to use the Dobeck fuel controller to get the mix right but this was worth over 5hp. My slip on exhaust netted 2hp and the race exhaust a couple more depending on the rpm range.

Speaking of RPM, I used the MXU 700 ECU which messed up my dash read out, but gave me another 1000rpm. I don't know how this will work with the 500, might be the same. Changing clutching will help a bit too. Right now I'm maxing out at 56mph and keeping pace with the Arctic Cat 700's. I also did some head work and a cam. Right now I'm playing with a larger throttle body but that has to be matched with a more aggressive cam and even more RPM. I started with 32hp at the rear wheels bone stock and currently have 49hp.

I think a lot of people forget about the CVT. Quite a few doing custom work on them for more performance. May be the cheapest single mod you can make even sending it out for machining.

Who has the best clutch kit or does machine of them? Does any one have pics of intake mods? I'm running a uni filter set up now. What muffler? Harder out of the hole and 50mph would be great!

Google airdam clutches. They do Arctic Cats so he probably can do Kymco too. Email them and see what they suggest and then decide if you want to go that route. There is another called Papa Slap but their website is down right now.

Ok here is the update on this so far.  Finally someone has made an exhaust for these, google GSE performance. Doebeck makes fuel controllers for these machines for the airbox mod and uni filter. Led light bars are easy to adapt, lighted whip antennas are a most for personality, aslo added a rear bumper and plow. This machine has been fun modifying as there are many options out there to make it your own!

With Kymco's reputation for reliability I am not sure they want to get into performance mods and push their engines beyond what they were designed to do. If you look at the other mfgrs that are into performance, their machines are constantly being worked on and fixed to keep them running. Had an opportunity to ride with a group of fellows that are into high performance machines and are not afraid to spend whatever it costs to make them fast. The problem I see is they are always working on and fixing something because they are pushing them beyond their design capability. Yet they have the balls to complain that their machines are a piece of crap because they keep breaking. I prefer to keep mine stock and ride and play rather than continually working on them....Just my two cents here but once you start modding you will be constantly working on it to keep it going. I don't believe that is the future that Kymco has in mind for their products.

You are welcome!  The factory always leaves something on the table, the info is an FYI based on research for those who might want to modify their machine to their liking. I have had no issue with the reliability of my machine, and it is not babied...
