what batterys are better. jell or acid.and why.

Yuasa Acid Glass Mat seem to be the best, from what I am told Yuasa is the only mfg who uses virgin lead in their batteries, the rest of the MC mfg batteries use recycled lead.

From my experience the jell batteries do not last as long, don't know why, they just don't. Any battery you do need to keep properly charged with a maintenance charger.

I don't know by personal experience but keep seeing these lithium are the thing price is high but supposed to be the end all. As for brand I hear Yuasa is the best.

Thanks guys. I have tried both batterys and only can get up to 2.5 to maybe 3 years out of theam .The acid battery I have put water in theam and they last maybe another 6 months. I think the only dif. Is that the jell battery don't spill. some of the acid ones do.Its time for a new one now and im undecided on which one. cheap acid or more for the buck but last just as long. seams like a waist of money to me.

Li batteries suck in cold weather, really bad, you need to turn something on to get the juice flowing only after you get them warmed up by draining power to they have sufficient power for cold starts

best battery IMHO is an AGM

If you get the right Yuasa battery, you do not add acid and it does not leak out. You would be looking for a YTX prefix where you add the acid and than seal it up. Do not get one with acid already added.

What he said above Lithium batteries and cold weather did not work for me, I tries the tricks and still no good. CCA are no good either. They have there place but generally they do not replace the flooded batteries. Too many returns on the gel batteries.

I've had the best luck with AGM batts. You can get them for 35$ on up if you look. Look at the battery cases you'll find a lot of brands with the same exact case just rebranded.

I hear that lithium batteries are not good in cold weather. But what temperature is considered cold? -- 50, 40, 20 lower than that? How cold is Cold? Just wanting to have an idea.

Thanks. Perhaps lithium is an option to consider in Tallahassee, Florida. Below 20 is rare. And about 35-40 is my limit for riding anyway.

I have a battery tender hooked up to my DT 300, it was -20 with the wind chill here in NJ last weekend and had no trouble starting up. Does anyone else use one?

The only time I use my tender is with acid battery. my jell don't relly need it.
