Variator rollers fitted incorrectly by dealer

My scoot was in the shop for a new crank a few months back.
I decided to open up the CVT because performance has been a bit low since then, with revs too high for the kmh.

Once open I saw the rollers had been installed the wrong way in the variator with the result that the metal insert, had extended through centrifugal force and had ground the side wall on 5 of the roller paths.
I had to file the walls down to get some sort if evenness, but I don't have a dremmel tool, so there are filing marks in the aluminium.
I tried my best with a file to smooth it out, and fitted new rollers.
What an immediate effect on performance! Especially on pull away.
I have not hit the highway yet, so cannot confirm improved top speed, but that is expected.

I also cannot say what my mcguyver to the variator will do the long term.

I suppose I should budget for a variator.

So they installed ROUND rollers so they SLID up the ramps instead of rolling? This has got to take the cake!

Sounds like someone put in a smaller size? It really make no diff if the rollers are installed one side facing one way or the other. For the plastic of the roller to wear down on one side to the point the metal was hitting the ramp plate, there would have to be side to side movement. Meaning the rollers had to be to narrow? I would put in new rollers and a new ramp plate. You don't want to have a roller go side ways and lock up inside of one of the ramps! Bad news as it will come apart in a violent fashion.  :-*

Agree, buy new parts - filing a couple of ramps may unbalance the whole part - hard on the carrying bearing.

Also, maybe some one put in cheap chinese rollers to save on cost or what ever? This would account for the wear issue also. :-*

I just opened the CVT after a week with new rollers. Everything looks well.
I did notice the clutch support bearing in the outer housing, does not spin freely, so that is probably due for replacement.
I would like to do the job myself, but have no idea how to get it out, as it was in really tight.

I have Previously looked for Chinese rollers, but they don't go this big. I could not find the weight  33grams.

I bought an electric impact wrench at harbor fright. Very cheap. It does the job very well.  :-*
