Hi Y'all

This past week, I rode past 40,000 miles on my 2012 Downtown.  I noticed it when I was philling up my gas tank yesterday.

Can we get a full "owner's report" of mechanical-issues & service history?
Parts consumed; oil usage now; tire life; body panels & paint; reliability, etc. ?
The 300's are very popular Kymcos - lots of owners.
Would be good reading for those shopping a mid-size maxi scooter.

Yay! What a milestone! Mine is nudging 20000 miles and I am a clam with a smile. Want to hear your report when you feel like it. Use Stig's message as a check list!

Hope it has been mostly trouble free.
If I can get 40-60 thousand out of my GT, I will be very pleased.

Ok Stig,

Every things seems to be good.  I followed the owner's manual for servicing.  Plus almost every Sunday morning, I check the oil and tires.  My tires seem to lasted around 8500 miles.   Brakes lasted about 17,000 miles.  The belt lasted about 17,000 miles.   The body has held up real well.

The only major issue was when Downie quit running back in October.  My mileage around 37,670 when that happened.  Moxie's replaced the valves and piston but never really determined what caused her to quit running.     

Other things that have happened:  One of the cables used to unlatch my seat broke.  My left rubber foot pad broke.  The battery lasted about 2.5 years.  One of the screws used to keep the brake handle fell out.  The small muffler protector has fallen off twice.

Not good to hear of major engine failure at 37,000.
What engine oil were you using?.

Boo, I was thinking the same thing. Many people have stated that the 200 cc and over water cooled Kymco engines were often good for well in excess of 50,000 miles if maintained properly and driven fairly sensibly. Hopefully, this is an anomaly. I sure hope to get more than 37,000 miles from my 2009 Xciting 250.

Mobil One is the oil that i have been using.  But tonight on the way home, my engine started to make a high pitch whine. Not a good thing.  I will call Moxie's in the morning for a pickup.

I dont understand why and how Moxie would determine the valves and piston needed replacing if they didnt know what had caused the bike to stop running in the first place. I got my DT300 from Burleson Powersports because I didn't like the work Moxie had done on my daughter's old 1985 Honda 250 elite. I now have 26500 on my DT300 and havent had a problem other than routine replacement of belt, tires and brakes......knock on wood!

Even Kymco USA couldn't explain why it quit running.  Everything was in specification.

A Downie Update:  The left crankcase cover screen broke, melted, became a ball and was rolling in the same area as the drive pulley.     The screen allows fresh air into the pulley area.  Moxie did a temporary fix until the new crankcase cover comes in.

Today's Mileage is approximately 42,200 miles and she broke down again. I was traveling around 70 MPH, the next thing I feel the scooter going into neutral and my speed decreasing.  I safely pulled over to the side of the road, tried to increase my speed and nothing happened.  I shut her off, then turned it on and still nothing happen.  I had it towed to Moxie Scooters.  I should know tomorrow as to what happened.  My wife suggested that it might be time to get a new scooter.

I gotta respond to replacing valves and piston but not knowing what caused the shut-down: @$%!!@*##!! All of us that do our own valves adjust know how well these 300's are built. There is some other cause and I'll bet it is electrical. Electrics are pretty good on these as well but are really touchy about grounds and bad connections. One of the things I have done to these is goober up the connectors with silicone dielectric grease like Ford has done since the late eighties. Gets rid of the bad contact gremlins which will appear with hours and miles. Boy, would I like to work on your problem! By the way, I personally would avoid a repair facility that just throws parts at a problem hoping it will go away. Please keep us posted. Where you at anyway?

Moxie is in TX Karl...I bought parts for my LIKE200I from them....shop has a good rep I think.
I don't know. ....you don't think 40,ooo miles at 70mph on a 300 might cause a failure in the engine??
I hear these Kymco 300's are solid.....but?
