Nah, 40000 should be just fine, I think. And that is because the whole line has been based on Honda construction. I can see the CVT getting shabby at that mileage but would bet money I don't have the engine is sound. It is always possible something could break but that is usually accompanied by noises, pretty loud noises! His description struck me as one of those "WWAAaaaaahhhhhooooooo......." to total shut-down things. Probably power interruptis to the ignition/ECU.

Three days to Moxie at old guy scooter speeds.....all I need is a flimsy excuse!

PS: I presume the cooling system is functional. Coolant failure could really fry an engine quick! Low coolant, pump or pipe failure could do it. Pipe failure would be soon noticed by smell and steam. Low coolant and pump failure would be more subtle.

73,458  Km.  ( 45,645 miles )   2011 DT.  300i delivered June  26  2012,   BREAK IN HARD , first 25 miles up hill WOT.   down hill at speed closed throttle,.  slow ride home and change the oil,  then ride easy for 1,000  miles ,  with several oil changes ,  then change to full Syn. oil 5 / W 50 ,.  till now,
  when new at 60 MPH. RPM was over 6500 to 7000 , RPM.   modified variator by extending slides , and installed DR. pulley sliders RPM now is 60 MPH.  5500 to 6000 RPM.   6100 RPM go,s to 70 MPH.

Today's Mileage is approximately 42,200 miles and she broke down again. I was traveling around 70 MPH, the next thing I feel the scooter going into neutral and my speed decreasing.  I safely pulled over to the side of the road, tried to increase my speed and nothing happened.  I shut her off, then turned it on and still nothing happen.  I had it towed to Moxie Scooters.  I should know tomorrow as to what happened.  My wife suggested that it might be time to get a new scooter.       

The symptoms you describe sound exactly like drive belt failure.
If the engine starts but when you rev the engine to pull away if the engine rpm increases and the scooter goes nowhere, chances are the drive belt has been shredded.
Hopefully there's no other damage to the transmission.

Agreed in that it sounds like a belt.

As far as the engine, acceleration will kill it fast than RPM's. on that note the sliders are great. With the fact that the bike is allot quicker for the same riding the motor does not have to work as hard to accelerate. This should help with longevity and the lowered RPM at speed keeps the bike closer to the peak torque level for the engine increasing again acceleration by lowering strain at the crank. Another side benefit by lowering torque required from the motor the belt is going threw less strain as well.

At least for the 300i 14gr sliders work well for me. My 200lbs. is well suited for the bike. Before though at 250lbs, and before final break-in, the bike was a bit sluggish.

I heard from Moxie's this afternoon. It was the belt.  I had a new belt and rollers installed back in November 2015,  The mileage was 37,683.  They are going to replace the belt and rollers.  Hopefully, I will get it back this week.  I will be using my wife's Like 200i until I get my Downtown back.   I don't know why my belt would break with less 5,000 miles of use.  Any thoughts?

maybe it was not a genuine Kymco belt? as far as rollers if you could get the DR Pulley sliders you will probably like them better.

Most likely to have been damaged by the foreign object rattling around inside the cover....

A Downie Update:  The left crankcase cover screen broke, melted, became a ball and was rolling in the same area as the drive pulley.     The screen allows fresh air into the pulley area.  Moxie did a temporary fix until the new crankcase cover comes in.

Wrong belt or cheap Chinese knock off is about the same. I would think if it were objects it would have presented itself as an issue before shredding the belt. now needing to replace the rollers again is suspicious though.

As mentioned, they are a great choice. They can all be subject to wear from dust etc..

I bought my DT second hand - when I cleaned out the transmission there was a teaspoon of black dust around the rollers. Rollers are 20x12mm.

Lil Beastie should be ready by the end of the week.  I hope.  I am switchin to Dr. Pulley Sliders 20-12 14 grams.  Wife thinks I ought to get another scooter since we have so much problems since November 2015.
