EFI qualities

   Mt new Kymco 450i is the first toy I have owned with EFI, all my previous toys have had carbs. I have never had a starting issue with my carbed engines however in the extreme cold, it did take a while sometimes, cranking and some extra pushing on the throttle to get her going.  This morning we hit -5 yep...below zero so I wanted to see how well my newest toy started in the cold. It is stored in my unheated barn and yes that seat was a bit nippy to sit on.  WOW  is all I can say....turned the key and waited for the start buzzer to stop, then turned to start and it started instantly.....yahoo.....engine probably didn't even make two revolutions before it was running and then just purred like a kitten without having to mess with anything. If this is how EFI is supposed to work then Amen I want it on all my toys.  Now just waiting for some warmer weather, while the UTV doesn't mind the cold, my old body sure doesn't like it!!

Was 29 F here and the 500i popped right off and even got in a short ride(drive?). Lotsa fun!

Yes, it is an UXV 500i side by side utility vehicle. Interesting the scoots have a starting problem but the sxs don't.

The last carbed vehicle I had was a '71 VW Beetle.....and that was the last vehicle I had with cold start/run issues.
EFI was one of the selling points of my little LIKE200i (along with the Vespa looks, dual discs & rr shocks and big tail light)

When I decided to purchase a scooter, I knew NOTHING about them. But Based on my experience as an auto mechanic, I KNEW that whatever I purchased, fuel injection was a must. Yes, it's more complex. But the improved drivability and the and the fact that there is no need for constant adjustment makes it fully desirable in my opinion.

carburetors have come a long way since 1971, my 99 SV650 has been every it as reliable as any fuel injection I have ever owned and better than my 07 V-strom 1000

while my V-strom has been 100% reliable when I leave it parked outside, I keep it in my basement in winter months  and roll it outdoors before I start it. Yes, it starts right up, but will not idle without babysitting the throttle till it's warm, because the water temp is already up to 60° and the air temp is 15°, it thinks its already warmed up enuf not to need its startup map

now, it it had a mechanical enrichener like the carbs on the SV650, there would be no problem, I could set it and walk away to put my gear on and by the time I am ready to go, the engine would run on it's own without enrichment
