Xenon lights - what do you need to modify
« on: February 24, 2016, 03:37:17 AM »
Hi,
I've been wanting to set up xenon lights on my DT for a long time but no seller on EBay could tell me if and what kit do I need..
I presume you can't just take h7 bulbs and switch them...
If anyone could help it would be great.

I did browse former topics and saw people with DT saying they just bought the bulbs- so now I'm even more confused...

One last question for today- does the spark plug really matter? I saw some Bosch ones and many other so called "high performence" plugs- but I don't think it will really have a significant effect

Cheers

I, too, get confused about headlamp "bulbs" and LED replacements. Sparkplugs may be like octane, linked to great debate and conflict of opinions. I put an Iridium in my DT300i shortly after new and it is still there and working. Realistically, modern spark plugs like the original would probably do the same thing for a lot less money. I have seen plugs from cars with nearly 100000 miles that MAY have needed the gap closed a bit but were still functioning. Your choice in any case.

hello karl, I had a message from MOD, this might help you too!!

hello again MOD, I DON'T mind at all answering your questions!!
I buy all my bulbs from a Chinese web site called "aliexpress" they take roughly 3 weeks to arrive BUT are a helluva lot cheaper than I can buy them here in the uk!!
what I shall do is give you a few links to the bulbs I have used if that's ok, so here I go!!

these are turn signal bulbs, 2 front, 2 back!

http://www.aliexpress.com/item/PY21W-BAU15S-1156-LED-150-Degree-21-SMD-CREE-LED-Lights-Bulbs-Turn-Signal-Lamp-Amber/32308109761.html?spm=2114.01010208.3.20.XJLzDm&ws_ab_test=searchweb201556_2,searchweb201644_5_505_506_503_504_301_9911_502_10001_10002_10017_10010_10005_10006_10011_10003_10004_10009_10008,searchweb201560_3,searchweb1451318400_-1,searchweb1451318411_6448&btsid=67e25d2a-cc5f-419b-8eb8-336b1e4cc0c0

these are the high beam bulbs,

I have these hids in my low beams now, but I was so impressed with the leds (above) that I have ordered another set for the low beam!

http://www.aliexpress.com/item/55w-HID-Xenon-Kit-H1-H3-H7-H11-H8-H9-HB3-HB4-9005-9006-Single-Beam/1506811168.html?spm=2114.01010208.3.191.XMjc56&ws_ab_test=searchweb201556_2,searchweb201644_5_505_506_503_504_301_9905_502_10001_10002_10017_10010_10005_10006_10011_10003_10004_10009_10008,searchweb201560_3,searchweb1451318400_-1,searchweb1451318411_6448&btsid=3d1a8a82-0da7-4a35-8dd4-96bf95b64c34

so that is the front of the scoot covered! now on to the rear!!
turn signals, as above.

rear brake led

I hope this helps rather than confuses you!!
just another helpful hint, personally when I buy from "aliexpress" I always look for 95% or above seller rating and at least 4 stars on feedback rating!
if you need any more help/ info, you know where I am  :D
cheers,
Don.

I tried to take the pictures from the same distance and the same angle, I'm not 100% convinced, maybe they will look different whilst driving!!
let me know what you think.

UPDATE,  I did notice a difference on my way home at 5am, it's a clearer brighter white than the hids, so I am very happy about that!
One thing I did notice was that there was a tiny bit of light flare at the edges of the light pattern, if you look at the pictures you can see it.
I would recommend them tho'.
Cheers,
Don.

Donjack,
How did you fit your hands behind the headlight module to reach the bulbs?

I managed to get the original bulbs out but i can't seem to get the new LED bulbs back in, as in find the notch that locks them down.

the first time I replaced the headlights,.  I removed the front end off the scooter,. and had trouble getting the bulb in ,  so I removed the hard board lock in the head light and put it on the bulb , and screwed it back on 3 little screws you need a magnetic screw driver or you will lose the screws, very small screws,  after changing from OEM bulbs to HID bulbs to LED bulbs they go in easy,.

I'm the same as De Dee, removed the nose but nothing more, the bulbs went in but it was a tight squeeze.
Cheers,
Don.
