How long will the stock engine last..? 125 vs 150?

First things first.. greets from Croatia.. I'm new! 

Having just sold my 50cc scoot (Peugeot Speedfight2) that I've done 10.000kms on
(6k+ miles) in just over a year, I've decided to get something more economical, and
more 2up capable, but also not more expensive to run per mile of riding then the SF2 was.

The Agility 125 seems like a logical choice, and I've been following them since day one.
The Fly 100 is also an option, but I've pretty much decided I'm gonna get an A125.

I was wondering what kind of mileage people get from these, before the engine needs a
rebuild? Of course, we're talking about a completely stock engine, and all oil/filter changes in
the process.

I've read all the tuning threads also and see a lot of you are against the big bore kits.

How about the stock 150cc engine? I see the Agility 150 is available in some places.
Can I just bolt on the 150cc engine parts and call it a 150, or are there other differences?

(I seriously doubt they went through the trouble of designing a bunch of other 150cc specific
parts for a cheapo Chinese scooter.)

Save the "get a 250 scoot" recommendations, I know it all, I've worked at a scooter shop for
2 years, reviewed motorcycles and scooters for a local newspaper and already own a bigger bike
(Kawasaki ER6F ABS).. just looking into options on the Agility as it is EXACTLY what I need
from a scooter! (Can't afford the new R16 or the Aprilia SportCityOne 125 right now..)

If it of any help, I bought a used Super Fever (50cc) at 19'000 km. I immediately installed a big bore (70cc) and now have almost 49'000 km. Maintenance is the key. Ps It is an '04

My 50cc scoot had 31k when I sold it.. I'm aware of what CAN be expected, but I'd really like to
hear about the A125 4T engine.. and big bore kits are a whole different story on 2 stroke 50ccs.

1. You can expect the same mileage you would expect on any 4-stroke motorcycle engine. Such a question cannot be answered. Maybe 20.000 km, maybe 60.000 km.

2. With scoots, especially 4-stroke,  you should be worrying about everything else more than the engine, because everything else tends to fall apart sooner than engine.

3. If you want 150 cc scoot, buy People 200.

4. A125 is good for driving with a passenger only if both are squirrel sized and for short distances. (20-30 kms)

Since I got a bigger bike for fun/longer trips, I don't see any issues with 2up travel.
I've don't over 50km 2up on my 50cc scoot, and it's doable.

Everything is doable. I drove on Piaggio NRG 50 cc two up with 50 kg of stones on the floor board and a sick cat in cat transporter, but I am not claiming it was comfortable, normal or recommendable. I also drove across three different states on 50 cc air cooled scoot that had 90-10" tires...

I am just commenting that it is not that comfortable.

For example, I am 5 ft 11, 230 lbs, and when I am driving Agility alone, I have to sit way back in order to be able to turn the steering, otherwise my knees would be in the way. In fact, I have never driven a scoot that would have such a strange driving position.

Two up you have to be very careful not to go rubber up when turning in the crossroads.

Hmm.. I'm 5'11" too.. the handlebars hit my knees on the speedfight too.. oh well.. it's a small scoot, what can you do.

Probably yes.

It is quite fast. My stock was able to hit 117 km/h (downhill, of course, tacho indicated, but it felt FAST).
On flat ground it goes around 110 km/h.
Consumption is negligible, 2.9-3.3 l/100 km whatever you do with it, one up, two up, flat out...

The rear brake is almost non existing, it barely works at all, especially compared to scoots with rear disc brake.

There is almost no maintenance work on it, mine has 13.900 kms, on 12.500 I changed the belt (it looked fine, but was 1 mm below specs) and weight rollers. Still original pads, shoes, etc. 100 kms ago I installed new Dunlop Scootmax tires, the originals still looked good though and felt good in the rain too. Every 2K km replace 1 l of engine oil, blow out dust from the air element and you are good to go. There is no oil filter, just wire mesh screen that is washed with gasoline and put back in.

In the first 14K km there were two blown fuses and in warranty the starter switch was replaced.

No wind protection AT ALL.

I`ve also installed SAITO heated handgrips and my gf rides the scoot 365 days in a year.

Good little scoot, but nothing very special.

It fits my needs PERFECTLY, needs less fuel/km then my 50cc scoot did and is faster.
Exactly what I need. New oil every 2000km? I got sick of my speedfight needing new
oil every 1500km, this is almost as bad  

How much did you pay for the grips and where did you get'em?
(I need them for my kawa too)

I've read that the rear brake is lousy.. but I found the rear drum on the Super8 just fine.
Can you lock up the rear at all?

Oil change intervals are every 2k km because engine is vented-oil cooled and not water cooled so oil is under more strain than in water cooled engines, also, there is no oil filter. After few hundred kms the oil is completely black compared to yellowish oil in my People 250S, for example.

It needs 1 l of semi synth oil that costs around 10-12 US$, so it is no problem. It does not need oil between changes.

You can get a lot of spares on ebay (but .de , not .com or .uk!) and ship them to Cro at half a local price. I bought the belt and rollers online. I saw that disc pads and rear shoes are readily available.

I have never tried to lock up rear brake, and I do not drive it daily (it's my gf's scoot), but I guess it is quite possible, especially because you can adjust the rear brake to bite early using adjuster nut close to the drum.

I used Saito both on Agility and Beverly and I use detachable velcro-Oxford on People. You can look up Saito on louis.de and I found the best offer for Oxford on amazon.co.uk , just disregard the fact that they ship only books to Croatia, they shipped the handgrips without problems and I paid no customs fee at all.

Saito is 30-50 EUR per pair, Oxford was 55 EUR I think. Btw. look up "Heizgriffe" on louis.de and you'll get the picture.

Be careful what you buy because handlebar diameter of bikes and scoots is either 22 mm or 25.4 mm, so you have to know which will work for you.

Yeah, Speedfight was a 2T, needed 1l of oil every ~1500km, but I used $15+ oil, so even
at every 2000km and $10/l, this doesn't sound so bad.. but I'm not too keen on replacing
oil every 2-3 months. Is the 2000km mark manufacturer recommended or they give different
numbers (yeah, I know it's probably in the manual, but it's been a long day)
 

How much was the belt online?
Since the Agility is very popular in the USA too, I've also seen parts for them everywhere.

Trying to find a good used one is probably gonna be a pain, I've seen just a few in local
ads, and just ONE seems like a good one. It's in ZG tho, and 300km trip home at around
freezing temps might be a bit tricky. It's got 9600km on the clock, a kappa topcase, 1st owner,
all services done at authorized dealership, news sava tires and looks great. It's a bit on the expensive
side tho, considering it's a 2006 model (8100kn).. just a bit over my budget at the moment.

..I ride my A50 with my feet on the passenger footrests...kinda in a sportbike posture....I have the same knee-knocking problem...
