...it takes several things happening, all at the same time, for me to run over 50mph...

..gotta be going down somewhat of a decline..gotta have a good tail-wind..it helps to be in a line of traffic..road must be dry...no spray screwin' around with my air filter..

..dang....

Did some exhaust work to see how it'll hold up..

I posted this somewhere else, here's the c/p w/ gallery:

New 3" of snow over the night.. we haven't had this much snow here in
10 years.. so.. off to the garage to "fix" the rust issue on the exhaust!

This is really the only part of the scoot that shows it's ever been used,
so I hit it with my limited skills, limited tools and a can of cheap exhaust
spray paint!

I just painted the last few inches to see how the color will change over time
so I know where and when to respray it again.
Pics!

Yeah, probably, but I had over half a can left from previous scoot that needed
it twice/month so 3 months doesn't sound bad at all.

There is always option to simply give up.

I spray my exhaust cans once every summer in 4-5 layers and do not car what happens meanwhile.

I see that is already above standards of other scooter users because they are mostly rusty.

Not spraying it at all will probably result in holes sooner or later and it looks fugly.
We'll see how often this one will need it, if it's not too often I'll do it.. but I'm tired of spraying
the can every 2 weeks on my other scoot.

If you run the engine until it is hot the paint will "BURN" into the metal, and tend to last a little longer. I heat my cylinder in the oven to 225 degrees, and like axy said about once a year.

How much time to completely remove the exhaust?

If it takes less time then doing what I did, masking half of the bike, I'd rather do
that, plus I can paint it a lot better that way.

Multiple coats don't help?

Re: Heat.. the spray paint I got actually says it should be applied to a cold and clean
exhaust, but it just might be a precaution because it's flammable.

I actually sprayed the old scooter's exhaust when it was hot every now and then and
it was fine, but didn't last that long. Never got around to taking it completely off and
doing multiple layers though.

I have never seen a scoot exhaust can with a hole in it.

If you have the tools ready, around one minute.

Your exhaust is easy enough to take off, but I wouldn't unless you were removing the tire or jug. There is either a compression seal or a gasket on the ex. manifold tha will last forever if you don't mess w/ it or leak always if you do. This is the paint I use   http://www.vhtpaint.com/flameproof.html     A toilet tissue roll will allow you to focus the spray so you will not have to remove the pipe unless you want to. Now just to qualify the low maintenance aspect;  If you bought the BEST/TOP OF THE LINE?/ STAINLESS STEEL exhaust money could buy... Wouldn't you be out there EVERY time you rode... POLISHING? Same w/ a steel pipe MAINTAIN! Axy, I have three nc/50 pipes that have rusted thru, and need downtubes for the header. Granted they are ALL 80's vintage. Though the mufflers are in perfect shape.

Should regularly derusting/cleaning the muffler be a standard part of maintenance for every scooter?  I've never heard that talked about before.  The muffler on my 2008 Piaggio does look a little rusty...
