Stuck at a Red Light...

I sat for a good 5 minutes and decided to turn right...  This has happened on a couple of ocassions in not even 2 weeks of riding my Grand Vista.  What can I do?

Or you can make your own. Go to Home Depot and buy one of those magnets-on-a-stick used for picking up screws etc., take it off the stick and mount it under your scoot with hose clamps.

Cost = less than $15 and it works great.

Old Guy....  Does the polarity of the magnet matter?

Nope. Doesn't even seem to make a difference which way you mount it. Just get it as close to the ground as you can.

When I stop at an intersection and there are no other cars around or behind me, I look for the rectangular cuts  in the asphalt or concrete road where the signal detector loop wires are layed and try to straddle over one or two of the cuts. It usually works to trigger the light. If it doesnt work,I wait thru two light changes or 2-3 minutes and cautiously go through the light! Usually there are no cars around to help trigger traffic light sensor going my direction.  Jay Oldhummer

I installed a strong earth magnet on my centerstand.  Seems to be the lowest part on the GV.  I will test the outcome early this weekend.  So I have no car traffic to help me out...  I will let you know if it works...

Howdy all;

Read up a lot about this, magnet devices, and such.  Found that the strategy of sitting over the intersection of those wires, or over the center wire, makes th emost impact on the light changing.  Here's a link to a file from my Usergroup's article on the whole thing:

I seem to be doing much better, I always make sure I am over the cut in the asphalt.  I put a earth magnet on and just aproach over a the coil lines...

What size magnet did you use? Just curious.

Well I am back to say, I believe the magnet works...  I have one about the size of 5 quarters stacked.  It said it could pull 20 pounds...  I ordered it from Grainger.  Since the install I have not waited like I had to in the past.  Mind you, I am always looking for the coils when pulling slowly to a intersection.  I will even adjust my scoot if I had to make a quikers stop...  But for the cost, It has been worth it to me...

I don't know about the magnet thingies.  I just position over the center wire.  Never get stuck; here in Phoenix, every light is induction.
