negotiating with dealer for 500 rI
« on: March 01, 2010, 04:42:26 AM »
hello everyone.  i'm a virgin newbie (first post) who is going to negotiate with dealer here in texas on tuesday for a 2009 500 ri demo.  mileage is <500. it is abs and appears new. ie; no scratches, nicks, dings that were noticeable on cursory inspection.  any idea on what might be a fair price? i'm thinking around 5800 bucks for the bike.  sound reasonable?
muchas gracias ;D

Welcome Kopilot, Here's the kelly blue book page for the scoot. It's a grand lower than you thought. It will be a used bike the second you sign the paper, The same is true for them selling it as a Demo. Good luck to you , and let us know how it goes. Ps. They are paying interest on a bank note every month for it to sit there. So I would come out swinging.

Don't be offended if the dealer balks at your offer, though. Chances are good that he's had that scooter on his floor through a dealer floor plan, which means he gets the privilege of paying $100+ every month for it to sit there, unsold.

life is too short to get too offended.  problem is he is a really good guy and runs a great store that  he has owned for a long time.  most likely if he makes a decent offer i'll split the difference on what i am thinking and see how it falls out.  maybe a topcase and some soft saddlebags at his cost or something. bottom line is i should be rolling on a cool, reliable maxi with a 2 yr warranty which i hope never gets used. lifes not too bad.
thanks for all the replies and wish me luck.

kopilot,

I just got a 2009 Xciting 500 ABS a couple of weeks ago. I paid $5999, no prep or freight charge. No mileage.

Straight up deal. I think they were looking to make floor space. Plus, this is the third scoot I have bought from the dealer. Super Scooterstore of America. Ya gotta love 'em :-)

I guess you HAVE to be in a true profession to afford living in Crow-atia. Hey, Do you know who Mikal Cro-Cop is. I understand he is a magestrate or some Govt. post there. He's also 1 of the top K1 fighters in the world. I just heard he is a top dawg in Croaita as well.
