What plastic care products?
« on: March 02, 2010, 05:46:03 PM »
What do you guys use to care for and protect the black textured plastics.  Thinking of the black parts on my X500 that constitute the "dashboard", handlebar covering, etc.

I've always used Armor All but I remember hearing rumors that it wasn't so good for plastic after all.

And as long as we're at it, what other care products or techniques do you use on the rest of your scooter too?  Outer plastic, seat, windshield, cables, hoses, etc.

And what should we stay away from or be careful of when applying such products?

I like to keep it clean and pretty.

Thanks

Shaka

I used to use a product from Mothers called back to black on my car that worked well.  Otherwise there are a plethora of plastic care products at the auto parts store.  I don't have experience with any of the others though.

There really is a product called Mother's Back to Black...

I have used a product from Turtle Wax called Black Chrome.  It works great on black trim on cars, mirrors and on the plastic black parts of the bikes I have owned.

The Hung white is for white walls only. You sure don't want to be mixing those products. Not sure if it allowed where I live.  Pure canuba wax (any brand) is the hardest, longest lasting (Carefull axy) shine you can get. I use it on ALL the boat detail jobs I do, and if it lasts 365 days a year IN the water...

Gawd, . . . I shoulda known . . . you guys.  :D

Ok, there's 3 products for me to check into. Thanks.

So what about the seat?  I've never seen fabric like this on the 500 seat before. Was thinking about Scotch Guard for furniture?  Yes/No?  Anything else?

I use dash board silicone spray and even my wife's household furniture sprays - works well but you have to do it all the time - I spay all the black plastic, tyres and seats weekly - i have a 2001 Yam 125 majesty that looks brand new!!! amongst my other bikes.
