loosen drive belt - b&w 250

hi all.

I own a 2007 B&W 250. from the moment I bought it (couple of weeks ago), I heard strange noises from the belt area. so I opened the cover and realized that the drive belt is a bit loose. but when the variator opens, everything seems to work fine. actually, the noises appears only while standing. I decided to buy a new belt, and so I did. but after replacing the old one, the belt is still loose.
whats next? should I replace the whole variator?

..you should at least take a good look at your variator and clutch...make sure both movable pulleys are free to move in and out as they should...
..every mod (action) necessitates a (reaction) mod..

The belt looks "loose" by design.

..what axy says is true, and these cvts do make a bit of noise, and if you've never owned a scoot before, it may just be inherent cvt noise that you hear...

..it may very well be that you have no problem at all..

..how does the scoot perform?

performance is great. the old belt looks like the original one and it looks good without any tears or rubbing.
the variator looks fine too, and moves smoothly. the spring also function okay.
I had a scooter before, and maintained some other in my life.
I don't believe that the belt is loose like that from the manufacture. I can see it knocking on the floor of the variator chamber (or whatever it calls), and there are black signs there. I can also hear this sound, which doesn't sounds really healthy.

Did you check to make sure the torque driver is fully closing when the engine is stopped.  The belt should be riding all the way to the top.

Usually, the "old" belt looks like new, if replaced within reasonable time, when there is no tearing.
However, if you take a measuring tool and measure width, you will notice that its width has decreased (so has the top speed and scoots acceleration, marginally).
If you want to check the belt, you need to measure its (cold) width and compare it to factory specs for replacement.

On my A125 after 12.500 kms the belt looked like new, but had just about right width to be replaced.
I know that belts on Kymcos usually last more than 22.000 kms before snapping, when you are left stranded and possibly with a damaged transmission, so it really does not pay off to be cheap on basic maintenance.

The other possibility is the torque spring inside the clutch. The oem springs do lose tension from the heat. Or it may have broken,, and is not working correctly. As the cvt componants cannot move, the trouble has to be there. A broken spring would explain the noise also. Let us know what you find
