Air intake question...

Hey guys I'm new here and by the looks of what ive read here this forum is awesome for getting some great information and i applaud that. so i have a air intake question.. when i upgrade my air intake. with a uni filter. i was wondering what i do with my airbox do i keep it in the scooter or remove and if so what do i do with the crankcase breather tube that goes into the air box. im just clueless as to how to install this. and the proper way of doing it... Thanks guys

..remove the stock box and all it's tubing...

..the crankcase vent, just double it around, and cable tie it out of the way, where it drains downward...

..i've got pics of my engine compartment somewhere in here...

..th filter will install directly to the carb's intake...

..one note...when you install the free-flow filter, you will also need to increase the size of your carburetor's main jet, and adjust the idle screw for a smooth idle rpm...if you don't do this, you will stand the chance of running a "lean" fuel mixture, and that will cause major piston and/or valve damage...


..all together now,     "DON'T RUN LEAN!!!"

What he said  DON"T UH OH YEAH RUN LEAN.. If you can find a small fuel filter to plug into the vent hose it is all the better. It will keep dust water, and all the creepy crawlie things out. Your dealer will be able to get you a main jet that is 2-3 sizes bigger to accommodate the filter. More air in needs more fuel to burn. Welcome aboard!

thanks yea i got a 100 jet and an 88 that fit in hand, as well as a raised carb needle like suggested. So i hope between those that would handle the lean issue from ever happeneing. im just waiting for the new filter  .... but one more thing is i noticed a clear tube running parallel to the air box that was filled with oil.. what is the purpose and function of this tube and do i just remove it with the airbox?  my only concern was that it was filled with oil and was not sure it that was normal

does it just dead end? I think you are referring to the drain tube from the air box. The oil is from the vapor from the crank case breather. that will just go with the air box when you remove it.
