New to the scooter world, need some tips.
« on: April 23, 2010, 03:14:13 AM »
I just purchased a 2009 Agility 50. Got it for $450 with 976km on the clock. It has a few minor scrapes but only cosmetic. Anyways, the first owner cut the cdi, put in a #85 jet, and replaced the clutch boss. Well it goes about 40+. I would really like to get this thing going about 50mph, is that possible without uping the cc's or am I screwed. Keep in mind I weigh about 210lbs. All Input is apreciated, and right now I only have about $200 to spend right now on mods.

You purchased a low milage 50cc scooter for $450.00 that will go 40+ mph and you are disappointed . Unbelivable . You might start by reading some of the 3,763 existing posts in the agility 50 section of this forum . Good luck .

Sounds like a score!  ;)  Keep an eye out for Wordslinger's posts.  He's got his going 55 mph or so with a stock cylinder!

Congrats. on the score, and welcome to the forum! It's all in the fine details Bro. Start w/ lighter rollers, and stiffer clutch springs. You can pull the air box, and replace it w/ a full flo filter. Those mods will run around 40-50 bucks. You will need to go up a few jet sixes if you do the filter. 90/95/100. One of those should get it for you. You'll be doing 50mph with that done.

..wow, where were all these low-cost scooters when I was buying mine...   :-\

..dude, Welcome to the Forum! and congrats on your steal!!!

..tell y' what has worked for me on my 08...

..4.7 gram Leo Vince rollers in a Malossi Multivar variator..
..white Malossi 1000 main torque drive spring..
..blue +15% Leo Vince fly clutch springs..
..K&N air filter which facilitated a 1.02 mm main carburetor jet..(your scoot's jet may differ)
..religiously adjust my valve clearance to .04mm spec...
..change my oil at about half the recommended intervals...
..Avon Viper Stryke tires.. (tires and air pressure make a difference)

..all that for less than $300.00...

..this got me in the ballpark of 50mph...

..however, these stock A50s will forever be at the mercy of big hills and strong headwinds...so expect to drop to 35-40 mph up a decent hill, and you're gonna lose speed when the wind's not in your favor...

..I weigh @ 220 lbs, but what I've found is that top speed is as much about drag reduction as it is weight..

after geting the crank replaced it seams to run a lot better. something the dealer did they did right
for ones.

I wasn't complaning, this is my first two wheeled vehicle under 720cc so I just want to have fun with it and keep up with most traffic(or atleast not get ran over).

Wordslinger, I am most impressed with your scoot, I purchased the K&N filter RC2290, and 100 and 103 jets, so I am hoping that will put me in the ball park. Was yours more to the rich or lean side?

Thanks for all your input

..thanx slow!!!

..I can't stand running too rich..it's like at top speed, your scoot feels like it's falling forward on it's face...

..youi'll hear everybody here preach th' words "DON'T RUN LEAN!!"...

..and those words are good to live by..keeps fom burning a hole in your piston...

..but i believe a setup that hedges a bit toward the lean side..BUT NOT LEAN LEAN!!!..lol..is quicker...

..don't go by my jet sizes tho...chances are your scoot will need something different...

..mine's always seemed to need a bit larger jet than others...

After looking at all sorts of kits online, I have ordered a 72cc kit, along with a new head, and a aftermarket camshaft. Time to order about 5jets and a bunch of spark plugs. Once it's tuned and broken in, I plan on ordering the NCY Transmission kit from enviromoto.

I got my 80cc kit installed along with new head and cam. It's a hell of alot louder now, but I'm running to rich, because my 95 jet has the wrong threads, so I'm running a 100 jet. It runs fairly well and off the line its much better, but I'm going to order a a new 95 and a 98 just to be safe.
