Just a quick browse, and I didn't see the specs. but I think 2up on any 500cc is not a lot of fun. Highway cruising 2up needs a bigger bike. Around the back roads ...OK

My first bike was a 82-83(?)  Kawasaki 440 LTD. I only took one long-ish trip on it 2 up. Started in Inverness, Fl, up through Ocala, Silver Springs, over to I-95 and down to Cocoa to watch a shuttle launch. Not a problem :-)

Jan,

Am I understanding you correctly? You are putting a 200 kg (440 lb) load, plus cargo on the X500?

How is the mileage, and do you have the suspension high?

I'm asking because I'm 118kg, and I'd like to throw someone on the back every now and then.

Can anyone else chime in with what loads you are putting on the X500?

The manual for mine states the max weight capacity at 150 kg (330 lbs). That being said my wife and I are right at that limit and the scoot has no problem going down the road with us on board.

I'm 6' and 134 pounds.  With me on, the Xciting handles and accelerates well.  With my 200 pound friend on the back, (which puts it right at 334 pounds) we still get there but acceleration is nowhere near as good.  I wouldn't want to be on an interstate or expressway with both of us for any long trip.  I know the Xcitng is promoted, at least partially, as a touring scooter but, in my opinion, it is near the lower limit of power for riding on interstates and such, even one-up. Maybe I'd feel the same about the Silver Wing too.

For me to feel really comfortable on interstates and expressways, I'd want a whole lot more power. And yes, I used to ride a good bit on those kinds of highways.  I only really felt confident when I moved to a 750cc.

I've never been the kind to want to really load up a bike with lots of weight.  But I don't tour and have no desire to.  Everything is relative to what you're used to and what you want to do.  In my opinion, for touring or frequent two-up riding, look for the highest horsepower you can get for the money you've got.

Thanks for the info everyone! wow 440, I guess I should not worry then.

Currently I am 220 and driving a grandvista 250 on the highway and doing ok (just ok and not much more then that) Though it does kinda suck when driving to work in rush hour X_x;;  that is one reason I am looking to upgrade.

I will continue to read as more post show up, am curious to see what everyone says

I tour at 60/70 and I believe I get around 50mpg - i set the suspension at no 2 - I have no problem with touring comfortably and the 500i has good reserve power.

To be completely honest, my valves may not be adjusted properly at this point so I may be suffering a lack of power from that.  Also, I have the carburated version (2007).  Injected models may have more power.

As far as the load carrying capacity, it was fine with two up 330 lbs.  In other words, it wasn't bottoming out.  Ride was fine.

I wonder if it has to do with a center of balance (gravity) thing?

Nothing really "happened", though I think they're just out of adjustment.  Hearing ticking/ringing which I think is the valves.

I attempted to adjust but found my thinnest feeler gauge to be not thin enough.  Book calls for .1mm and the thinnest I had was .16 or somthing.  So that's what they're adjusted to right now. Don't know if that's enough to cause loss of power or what I'm hearing but maybe so. Zombie thinks so and I trust him.

I did get thinner gauges so next time will get it down where it should be hopefully.
