Scooterfriends, I have a favour to ask.
I have a 2006 Xciting 500 with a broken speedsensor cable... The cable was not properly attached so the innner three cables were broken and gave no or very strange speed and distance-readings. I repaired the speed sensor cable by disconnecting the plug (right under the front-hood) and re-soldering the three wires to three pins in the plug.
BUT...I forgot to write down which color goes to which. I assumed that the speed sensor cable colours would be the same as the wires in the plug under the hood... Me stupid; hey, I'm not a mechanic  :-\

Can someone please look under the front, disconnect the plug and tell me which colour belongs to which?

The colourcodes of the speed sensor cable are:
- Brown
- Blue
- Black

The colourcodes of the plug under the front/hood are:
- Black/Green
- Red/Green
- Violet/Red

I looked in the 349 pages of the .pdf-maniual that;s out there, but it's impossible to solve this particular problem with that.
A new speedsensor costs more then $ 100,-... I'm afraid to short out everything and that can be very expensive repair.

Thanks in advance!

Gijs

Try CALLING Kymco USA, and asking for tech support. I,m sure you can get the info there. Email doesn't get much attention.

Thanks zombie. Good advise, but is there no one who can look? It's done in 5 seconds...
Thanks

Where is this plug?  Can I find it just by looking up under the fairing with a flashlight?  Or do you have to remove some plastic parts?  Which ones?  I have an '07 500.

Great! Yes indeed, with a flashlight you should be able to see the plug under the fairing on the left side fairly easy. You don't have to remove any plastic parts. Just follow the wire of the speedometer sensor and disconnect the plug and see which colour belongs to which.

The colourcodes of the speed sensor cable are:
- Brown
- Blue
- Black

The colourcodes of the plug under the front/hood are:
- Black/Green
- Red/Green
- Violet/Red

Thanks!

Gijs

Well, unfortunately, my colors don't match yours.  >:(  Here's what I think I saw with my fairly profound colorblindness.

cable:  red             plug: violet?/red stripe

         black                   green/black stripe

         white                  red/maybe white stripe?

At least the plug wire stripes seem to match the color coming from the cable.

The dealer told me he'd replaced the whole instrument cluster shortly before I bought this scooter used.

Come on 500 owners, help guile out.  I couldn't cause my color coding wasn't the same as his. Not the same year scoot.   The plug is not hard to see by looking up under the fairing between the forks with a flashlight.  Somebody must have the same cable colors. . .

Hoolander, thanks for your trouble! So very kind of you.

I'm sure there is another Knight on a Xciting who will help me out  ::) Let me know!

Kymco.com sent me a wire-diagram that gave me a clue about the ground wire. I took a chance on the other 2 wires and all works fine again!

I taped the whole contraption for protection, impossible to see now.
Erased the whole nasty affaire from my memory now that it works.

Advise to all: check if the  speedcable-cable is well secured. It's very fragile and suffers a lot of friction.

I have the very detailed complete xciting 500 wire-diagram in colour (.pdf). I would be glad to email it to anyone who is in need.
