It looks like a brass tube in the front part of the bowl. Remove the mix screw, and try blowing some carb cleaner thru. It MIGHT blow any sediment out once you remove the bowl. Just don't stare at it when you do. It'll spray out of places you don't expect.

You should check the spring in them anyways while your in there. I'm not sure what it's called or the procedure for doing so, but I'm sure there is one.

OR

If you just want to check the price on them & slap a new set in (they shouldn't be too expensive) it can't hurt.

The spring (if thats what you call it) in the metal reeds.

I'm  guessing here but the only way that you would get "blowback" is if the reeds don't have enough ?spring? in them?

Hey guys, Sorry  it's been awhile! There are "stoppers" or "limiters" on top of the reeds. They cannot fail. If you have something wrong there it is generally a crack on one of the reeds. I'm not sure what you mean by "fuel pump" on the zx there is none. One quick test for the reeds can be done with a vacuum cleaner that has a blower output. Something like a shop vac. Remove the spark plug, and set the piston to bottom dead center. Make an adapter that will blow air into the spark plug hole. Using a bungee to hold the throttle wide open you will feel air blowing out of the carb IF the reeds are cracked. If the reeds are good there will be no air flow. give it a try, and post what you get>
