Valves adjusted and other stuff done
« on: May 23, 2010, 02:29:07 AM »
Ok, I got the valves adjusted so the gap is really snug on the .102 mm feeler.  My ringing is greatly reduced.

But I still hear a quite noticeable tapping/bapping at idle coming right out of the engine, it seems.  Maybe the variator, I don't know.  Will look into that next.

Oh, I broke off a valve cover bolt. Ha!  Ham handed me. . .  Luckily, it didn't break all the way off and I unscrewed it out.  WHEW!!!  A hardware store bolt is taking it's place while new ones are on the way from Stadium.

Changed oil and filter using Rotella full synthetic, 5w40 and HiFlo filter.

New iridium plug.

New air filter on the way.  Thanks everyone.   ;)

I see there is two different gap settings on the CR8EIX Irridiums:  0.7 and 0.8
Which is the better one to go for? ???

I'm afraid that's news to me -- I don't know, sorry.  I don't even have the old box my plug came in to check it.   :(

By the way, the additional noises I was hearing was in the variator.  When I changed to Dr. Pulley sliders and slide pieces it got quiet.

It's possible that valve adjustment would help.  It's a big job.

My 500 has been over 150kmh easily.

Can you check engine compression with a compression tester?  They are not expensive.  You would have to remove a lot of plastic parts to do either job.

I think your english is just fine!  ;)

Valves adjustement will be done by a profesional mechanic.

I hope, this will solve the problem.
