Oh boy...choice-choices
« on: May 29, 2010, 07:48:51 PM »
I stopped by the dealership that I traded my car for my scooter today to ask if they had rollers, or knew where to get them.  ( I know I can order them, but I have zero patience and want things right now!)  He says to stop up at his garage and talk to a couple of the guys there...they may have some for me...... I continue talking to the owner, and he tells me about a ride he's putting together that basically covers the entire south-southeast section of CT next Saturday.  He also tells me if I want, I can hop on a Super 8 for the ride so I won't have any troubles keeping up. (all the 150 decals have been stripped off)  Sounds good to me!  He tells me to take one out for a quick spin now...I hop on....HOLY HELL they're UNREAL!!!!  As I pull back up to the door, I say out loud, jokingly, "Man, I'd trade you my Agility + $500 for this thing..."  He replies w/ "done deal, and you have until June 10th to give me the $500" and sticks out his hand  :o.  Now, I love my scoot, but I have a sh** ton of hills to go up on the way to and from work, and top speed now is 20mph if I'm lucky up the hills.  The decals are removed from the Super 8, and I don't have the desire to really go over 45-50 at any given time, which I can do now on my Agility on level ground and downhill.....but, as I just said, the up hills KILL ME!  What would you guys do?  Take the deal or keep modifying my scoot?   ???

I would take the deal!  You have your motorcycle license though right?

That's the problem...I don't and wasn't really planning on getting one this year....That's why I was hoping without the decals and me keeping it around 45, like I do on my Agility, I'd get away with it....I kinda feel like I'm asking for trouble, but I really hate the 20mph hills!  What exactly could I do w/ my Agility to help w/ the hills without screwing it up?

one more thing....I have a friend who rides a Piaggio 150, w/ the decals stripped....he's been on his for 2+ years and never had a problem....no motorcycle license or reg, which you don't need in CT...

...wow, that's a tough call...the S8 150 is an awesome ride...

..your states laws are like here in NC...

..it translates to a half-dozen citations if you get caught..and the fact that after that, you're no longer "invisible"  to the po-po....they might take your ride, i dunno...

...speed limit for 49 cc scoots here is 35 mph...so it's always a risk...

..lighter roller weights..4.5-4.7gr....a 1500 main torque spring and +50% fly clutch springs will help....some....

..keep your tire air pressures up, your oil changed often, and maintain proper valve clearances...

..free-flow air filter, less restrictive exhaust and up-sizing the main jet in your carburetor will also help ...some...

..you can install a larger carburetor, and that will help...some....

..i'm still at the mercy of the big hills and stiff headwinds, even with the things mentioned above, except for the exhaust and the 1500 spring, i've done them all...it's just the nature of the lil 50 4t beast...

If you get caught you could face a multitude of charges . No m/c indorcement , no registration , improper or no tags , insurance , inspection etc. You also might have your scooter seized or impounded . Not to mention that every rider who cheats the system gives the lawmakers more excuses to require 50cc and under to have to go through all the hassles of motorcycle ownership . The dealer who is stripping the badging off the 150's should be procecuted IMO .

..i stopped by a local dealer a few weeks ago, and a guy had just bought a chinese 150...

..i asked, "Don't those have to be tagged before they can leave the lot?"..

..they kinda laughed, and replied, "there's ways around that"...

Just get it, and then work on getting your license and register the thing when you're ready.

I don't care for the blue and yellow color scheme, however, the black and red is sexy!!!

With all the bases you guys covered it comes down to the deal... Take it! the 4t S8 is perhaps the Best 150cc for the money. The only draw back would be an impound. It would have to be reg.insc. before leaving the yard, and most likely be broken all over the place from the "tow"

And if its red, you should do it ASAP.  Cuz we all know that red is faster.
