My Agility 125 Won't Start
« on: May 30, 2010, 07:32:14 PM »
Hi all:  Need some help.  My daughter rode her Kymco Agility 125 last night, filled it up with gas on the way home (may or may not be relevant but I’m providing all the facts), and an hour later when she attempted to start it again, it was deader than a door nail…no indication that there was any juice in the battery at all.  We charged the battery with a trickle charger and the charger indicator light showed that the battery was charged, but again, nothing.  With the key in the on position even the horn makes no sound.  Any thoughts?

Mine has a glass fuse by the battery, dont know if your does but I'd start there. Also I'd but a multi-meter on the battery to see what the voltage is.

Thanks...we checked the glass fuses and they looked intact.  We'll explore the multi-meter option.

...the horn will not operate unless the scoot is running...

..when you turn the key to the "on" position, does the fuel gauge move??

..have you tried to kick-start it yet?

..below is a link to the A125 service manual, which is a must have item...

..post back, we'll get 'r figured out..

Wordslinger:  I downloaded the service manual...thanks.  Yes I've tried to kick start...nothing.  There is no response to the lights, horn or fuel gauge when the key is turned to the off position.  Any more ideas?

...does your scoot have the side stand safety switch??

..check that out, and check those fuses again...

my a50 did the same thing, and it was the fuse holder not making good contact...squeezed it together and taped it with electrical tape...started right up..

also, i know this sounds cheesy, but switch the key back-n-forth e few times...may not be tumbling just right...

Where would the side stand safety switch be located?  I searched the manual I downloaded and nothing came up?

..ok, with a volt meter set on DC current, at your keyswitch (combi switch), with the switch in the ON position, you shoult read @ 12 volts between the black wire and the green wire...

..the black wire goes to a connector, where it wecomes black / blue stripe and then to a 7 amp fuse...the blk/blu wire also goes to your cdi unit..

..at the fuse, the wire becomes black again, and goes to your fuel gauge, signal relay, horn and at least one stop switch...

..if you have voltage across black and green at the combi switch, i would suspect that the fuse is blown...

..on a long shot, make sure that you battery's negative terminal connection is secure..and on th "ohm" setting of your volt meter, make sure you can get a reading from that terminal to your scoots frame...

99 % it's blown fuse in the floorboard.

Don't check anything else before that.

Happened twice to me.

SOME OF THE CONNECTORS MAY BE LOOSE----I HAD THAT SAME PROBLEM, JUST PULL APART SOME CONNECTORS AND PUT THEM BACK TOGETHER ALSO THE CDI UNIT AND I WOULD JUST CHANGE THE FUSE ANYWAY

..he said he had checked that already...

Glass fuse can look perfectly intact from outside, if the conductor thread breaks towards inner soldering point and not in the glass cylinder where you can see it...

I had that happen to me several times and I almost lost my mind troubleshooting and checking other things, while it was in fact a stupid fuse.

After that, I never visually inspect the fuses, but use universal measuring instrument to check the resistance, if it is zero, the fuse is blown.
