Oil level.

My Xciting 250ri shows the oil capacity to be roughly 1Qt. But when I fill it with one qt during an oil change, I notice that the oil light comes on while making an aggressive or even semi aggressive stop. However, if I add 2 or three more ounces, it doesn't happen. Anyone else seen this?

When I purchased it a couple of months ago, it was just above the full mark. And I find that unless it's at or near that level, the oil light comes on during heavy braking. When I change the oil, it's just below the full mark .

If your mesurement is done in a flat surface and the bike on its center stand i wouldnt worry on having low oil. Id address the oil bulb to see if thats outta range

I assume the diipstick is accurate since it reads full when I put 1 qt in at an oil change. I just don't like to see the oil light come on during a semi-aggressive stop. The additional 2 or 3 ounces seems to do the trick, and doesn't seem to cause any problems. So I guess I'll just go with that.

Both GV and Xciting 250 use 900 mL.  Buy a cheap plastic measuring cup in the Kitchen Utensils.  Fill it to 900 ml. or .9 Lt.  Use a funnel and pour it in.   And this includes removing the bottom screen and cleaning it.

Having more oil than needed is as bad as having less...
Just play by the dip stick. If your oil light comes on its more an issue from the bulb or the oil pump is lacking of strenght to pump oil and keep the pressure within specs.
Which oil are you using?

I used 15w-50. Now I'm using 20w-50. The light does NOT remain on once I'm stopped. It just comes on WHILE stopping and immediately goes out once fully stopped. IF it were a car engine , I'd say that the pickup screen was not close enough to the bottom of the oil pan. I did notice that when I bought it, the oil had just been changed and was just above the full mark. The "problem " did not occur until just before my oil change when the level was just below the full mark. When I changed the oil and put one full qt. (.946 liters) . It still would come on at an aggressive stop. But when I simply "overfilled) it by 2 ounces, it no longer does this. The engine shows zero symptoms of being overfill. And it was that way when I picked it up. So, I guess I'll just leave it.

It's official. I'm an IDIOT. I was screwing the dipstick in when checking the oil. I just read that it should be checked WITHOUT screwing it in.
Combine that with the fact that I'd also remove the screen let the oil drain for a LONG time, the extra couple of  ounces weren't overfilling it after all.
