Gear Oil Drainage Bolt Semi Stripped

So I'm changing the fluids today and tightening everything back up with a torque wrench. When applying 15lb of pressure the drainage bolt starts to spin. I back it out and there are a few shavings. I try again and it's spinning. But it can get tight enough for a finger tight seal. Seriously annoying when the torque recommendations are off/the metal is too weak. I've seen this happen on a youtube video where the guy was adjusting values.

So, if there isn't leakage, what are my options come 2000km from now? Thanks

I have the same trouble with my spark plug. I am attempting to repair it with a helical insert. You could try that or perhaps permanently seal the existing plug and drill and tap a new one .

If it's not leaking I would JB weld it in place and just tip the bike over when I needed to change the gear oil.

Anybody know what the size and pitch is of the gear oil drain bolt?

  get a bolt one size bigger and drill out and tap it ,  use air presure to blow out the drill bits through the top fill hole,  and when it is taped,.  some one did a video on that ,.

de dee has a good suggestion to fix the problem. To find the size and pitch of your bolt, pull it and take it to your local hardware or home supply store. In the nuts and bolts section they should have threads you can screw them in to to find out what size it is. Just ask someone who works there to help you.

Tthe bolt is 8mm with pitch 1 1/4"

I would recommend De-dee's idea since the drain bolt is way too small to begin with. His is a righteous fix with no drawbacks. JB Weld has its place and this ain't it!

There is an even easier solution to this. Replace the original bolt with a slightly longer one as the threaded hole goes deeper than the bolt. The remaining threads will hold the new bolt tight.

The resolution to this back in 2016 was to have a mechanic drill and tap the hole for a larger bolt. And each oil change use Permatex 82194 Ultra Grey Rigid High-Torque RTV Silicone Gasket Maker, 3.5 oz. to seal the bolt.

(when tightening the bolts after doing my engine & gear oil changes the other morning - I remembered all of these "stripped" posts....and just snugged up the bolt & washer by feel)
