Radiator drain and flush
«

So looking thru my online repair manual for the DT 300 I was not able to ascertain the method to drain radiator.......Anyone got any tips or ideas? At 27,000 I REALLY need to change the fluid but our local Kymco dealers are less qualified than I am to do the work so I refuse to let them do it. Help please......Thanks!

Mopar, there gotta be several threads here about this and I think the main emphasis is on "burping" when ya fill 'er back! The drain should be easy: disconnect the lowest, biggest hose with the radiator cap off or loose. Ain't sayin' anything more since I've never done it. Check the threads, they are there somewhere!

If you find any threads, please post them. I want to do a drain and flush on my 2012 DT 300, but I couldn't find any. Thanks

Mopar, go to the Yager posts, bikz on March 27 2015. Good outline there and good comments. Yager and DT systems very similar.

Well I drained, flushed and filled at the top right below the windshield. Ran it and it went straight to HOT! The overflow bottle filled to half. What did I do wrong? I hope I didn't ruin my motor
.....
Update;
All is well. Had to remove several plastic body parts to get to the drain hose on the radiator. Of all the maintenance I have done on my bike the radiator drain and refill was by far the most time consuming. Next time I might just loosen the side body fairing panels and see if I can drop the skid plate to gain access to the drain hose.

you have a air pocket in the motor, try tipping it over and shake the scooter, do it a lot, or the air could be in the water pump, as long as you don't ride much with the temp high , you should be OK.

Did you find and use the reference I gave you BEFORE you started this?

Yes Karl I did...and I found an earlier posting by someone who had an Xciting 200 (
http://www.kymcoforum.com/index.php?topic=7703.0
) so I used their method. Next time it wont be so bad. I made a few rookie first timer mistakes as one is prone to do.

Outstanding! I trust the bike is running OK and did not suffer from that short overtemp....

No Karl...all is good. Rode all afternoon Sunday just to make sure. No damage. I don't know who designed the bike but they didn't go out of their way to make it user friendly but once you do something on the bike it makes it easier the next time. Thanks!

Just did my first coolant flush and refill. You definitely have to take the side fairings off and of course the windshield, to get to the radiator. Popped the nylon rivets to get better access to the hoses. Took me about 2 1/2 hrs. From start to finish. Should be much quicker next time.

Just curious, do you remember how much coolant you put back in after you drained it? I used just under 1/2 gallon, between the radiator and overflow tank.
