80mph from 50cc. Is he lying or am I misinformed?

He may not have been lying.  He may only have been clueless.  Here's what may have happened:

Speedo was in KPH not MPH.  So 80 KPH = 50 MPH

Then his speedo was the typical 10% or more fast so figure his actual speed was 45 MPH or less.

Then he may have had a tailwind and been going downhill.

I figure a 50cc Chinese scooter should be able to do that.
