Downtown 300 vs gti300???
« on: April 05, 2016, 09:46:35 PM »
I might get one of those soon. Both have basically same great features 300cc fi lc abs and specially kymco bikes. Both retail almost exact $$$ brand new.
I ride city mostlly where the gti is better but the downtown has a huge storage space for a full face helmet which i dont like carrying arround anymore.

Theres basically no chance to road test any...

Would like to hear opinions!!

Thanks

Funny....the "Grand Touring" with the short wheelbase & big wheels (better for rough city streets?) for urban riding...... vs the "Downtown" which is significantly longer and lower and reportedly well planted, down there, for reassuring high speed touring out of town !!

Maybe a poorly named pair by KYMCO, but very good scooters with a great engine, by all accounts.

My opinion: Choose a color that will make you smile every day, and want to wash & wax frequently ! The right scooter in the wrong color - when it is a close call (a toss-up) - might lead to buyer's remorse.

Stig.....missing his RED scooter (Suzuki owners are old and frightened by colors)

I've had good experience with the Downtown. Good storage, great handling and power for city and highway use. I like the added security features, stronger lights and hazards
lights as well.

I think the Downtown is better handling. The 16" tires on the GT (People), as well as the seat are higher making for  a less balanced/stable bike. Had 5 procedures done on one shoulder, can't handle that top-heavy frame any more. I can 'flick' my Downtown like it weighs nothing. As an equestrian ( aka "cowgirl" ," horsie rider", etc.) the Downtown sits similar to being in a saddle( not sure how it handles in barrel racing or pole bending events, though). OH, and it's on sale, BRAND NEW,DEALER PRICE, for $2,000.00 LESS than it ever has yet. HMMMM... maybe I should get a newer one ?  I love my Burnt Orange one ( sharp looking with the black trim.

I have had my Downtown close to 4years and it has over 40K miles on it.  What caught my eye when I first saw it, was the design.  Which is similar to a motorcycle.

Hard to go wrong with either one. It's a matter of what "fits" you best.
I didn't know both those were available with ABS, If that's a deal breaker for you.

Ride, or at least sit on both of them.  The GT will probably be more comfortable if you are tall and the DT if you are short.  The DT has much better storage.  I don't think you can go wrong with either one as long as you fit on it.

My dealer never stocks the big step through scooters. He's been in business for a long time - watched a lot of other dealers go under - so I guess he knows what sells.
I did see one, at a used car lot, a People S250......superb red! If I could collect scooters I would have purchased it - bank-repo with less than 25 miles on it! Always wanted a big wheel scooter for around town. Never even sat one.

I bought one about three years ago. Have been very pleased with it.
I am 6` tall, 190 pounds.
I like the step through design, and large wheels. Works good for me.
The GTI handles good at high speed and in the twisties.
Both machines have pretty much the same engine and drive train.
If you are short in stature, you would probably like the Downtown
better.
If you are on the tall side, you will have more leg room on the GTI.
I sat on a Downtown in the showroom. Could not find a comfortable
place for my feet.

Besides, the Downtown is for gurlies.  ;D

Geography strikes again. Down here it's more big step thru over the maxi styles.
Local dealer sells more Gti300 and HD 200 than other in the plus 200 size. Part of it is the big wheel myth the other Maybe a matter of weather protection? Who knows.
