Your Helmet ??
« on: April 18, 2016, 03:01:54 PM »
What are you wearing....and how do you like it?
Pros & Cons?

I have a NOLAN, modular, largest shell, XXXL size, shaded drop-down and Pinlock.

I can only wear a modular ("flip-up") helmet because of my glasses. (spent hours trying other types)
Bought the NOLAN for the bright yellow color, and....
I like that NOLAN makes more than one size shell...for us guys with big heads. Some companies just thin the inner pads for bigger heads.
The Pinlock works well and shaded drop-down visor is easy to deploy and retract while on the move with heavy gloves on. I like the inside chin and neck pads meant to be removed for hot summer riding.
The shape causes less wind drag on my neck at speed when compared to my HJC modular.

Cons: Not crazy about the unlocking levers. Seem delicate. Could do with a bit more length on the quick release chin strap when I'm wearing one, or two!,  balaclavas.

I can wear it for hours with no complaints.
I wear ear-plugs with all helmets.

My wife and I both have helmets similar to yours.  Hi Viz, modular with flip down sun visor.  Mine's a Sedici and my wife has a HJC.  Why those brands?  Because that's what fits.  I tried a lot of different helmets but most just didn't fit my head.

Absolutely agree....firm believer in trying on a helmet before buying. Not all fit the same.
Agree with a dealer video which says to wear it around the dealership (for 20mins!) to see if it really is comfortable.
Good videos out there on how a helmet should fit.
Too important a piece of gear to buy on price or looks alone.
BTW: great photo!

Here's my helmet. It's an MT Thunder. Not expensive but a good Sharp rating. I like the hi vis colour and it was the only one I tried on. Fits perfectly. Good weight and very comfortable. Guess we were just meant to be together

I try to go a step further and take the helmet for a test ride.  i found one helmet that fit great but was real noisy when I took it for a ride.  Cycle Gear allows you to bring it back and trade it towards another with in a week (not sure of the exact time period) if you don't like it .

I have a G-Max GM67 helmet, bought at my local dealer so I could try it on and make sure it fits properly. And to support them, of course. It is white, so pretty visible. I like this helmet for its flexibility in all types of weather. It is a 3/4 helmet, but there is an optional chin/jaw piece that attaches for colder rides, and it has 6 vents for circulation in hotter weather. Another great feature is the light built into the back of the helmet - it can be set to stay on full, blink slow, blink fast, or even syncs up to the brake light. Great for adding one more way for cagers to see you in the dark. My favorite feature is the slide-down sun visor built in, and the control is easy to operate with heavy gloves on. No more carrying sunglasses around. Very comfortable helmet, and very reasonably priced as well.
