Nut on Clutch

Hello all.  I am planning on taking apart my clutch using a torque wrench to replace the Torque Spring and the Fly Springs for some stiffer ones.  I am trying to figure out the size of the nut on the inner part of the clutch...(The Big Nut)...But...I checked at this site... http://www.stadiumyamaha.com/pages/parts/viewbybrand/73/Kymco.aspx  (part 90202 on the site) and it says it is 28mm...however the service manual says that it is 39mm...Any ideas on this one?

..1-1/2" socket or combination wrench works fine...

1-1/2"  I thought it was either 28 mm or 39mm...Now I am very confused?

Okay great.  Well I was just gonna buy a socket since I don't have any.  Should I be buying a 38mm, a 39mm, or a 1.5"?  Thanks wordslinger...

.....i've always use a 1.5"..

...i'm not sure what the exact mm wrench should be...the distance between the flats on the nut, plus a lil more...

..probly a 38...maybe 39 would work, as the flats are long...

..oh, and get a 6-point socket or wrench...not a 12 point...

...not so sure you wanna use an impact wrench on this nut tho...

..you need to apply direct, gradual pressure...no need to hoss it out, as it ain't that tight, and there are just a few "fine" theads...

On the ZX50 it is 39mm, I couldn't find a spanner or socket to suit without ordering on so I set to making a spanner at home. As wordslinger said it is not very tight so mild steel was good enough.

So what method do you suggest on taking this hex nut off?  A vice and oil wrench?  How do you guys do it?

..l made this...but you can buy a tool that looks like this...


there are also other methods...youtube has many vids on how to do this...

I lock the rear brake, and loosen the nut on the scoot. Then remove the clutch, and stand on it on the floor. You can spin the loose nut off by hand.

How does locking the brake hold the clutch?  That would only hold the bell, but you have to have the bell removed to get at the big nut.  Am I missing something? 

thelastkah- On my ZX50 it is a 39mm nut.  I use a 40mm flat wrench I have at work.
