The oil strainer screen is black plastic on a DT300i. The sump drain is metal. It ain't stripped if you can't get it out. The hex may be rounded off but the threads are still OK. Now. Which is it? Gotta be one of three things associated with changing oil: 1. Drain 2. Screen 3. Filter. Take deep breath, exhale, relax (a little) and we'll fix this!

OK, great! Now, which one: black plastic (strainer 17 mm), gold metal (drain bolt 17 mm) or aluminum hex ( filter cover 24 mm)?

Hey, Feeble, this isn't one of the righty, tighty, lefty loosey things, is it? That black plastic is pretty soft and cannot be tightened too much or the plastic threads just strip off the thing. That means it shouldn't take much twist to the left to get it out......unless its been epoxied in there.

Have seen this issue come up on the Honda scooter forum....
Practically pot metal....
What is advised, often, if that thing cannot be removed because of damage to the hex head....then

just leave it be if it is not leaking!

It is a very rare thing to actually find anything in the screen after the scoot has had a couple oil changes (I never have in my LIKE....maybe your guy's DTs aren't made as well ?? :) )....so it is a case of 'belt and suspenders'. It has a purpose - but it is not hardly essential any longer!

So, do not panic if it is stuck on there....if the choice is - leave it there or risk screwing up the case trying to muscle it out.....then the best thing is to leave it be..
Drain the oil the other way ...and try not to look at it!

(really? some scoots have a plastic plug down there?!!)

If its plastic you could try to JB weld a small flat piece of metal to it and use it to unscrew. Then replace with a new plastic bolt.

You will rarely find anything in the strainer. Luckily there is a second bolt to drain the oil.

Excellent advice Dedee. Those 12 point thingies should be outlawed!
