Rear Wheel bearings and Seal Kit
« on: May 04, 2016, 06:29:07 PM »
My mechanic said my rear wheel bearings are toast on my '09 GV. Anyone know where to get a rear wheel bearing/seal set? I looked at a few parts schematics online, and I don't see the parts listed. Thanks!

Got some questions for your "mechanic": 1. "Isn't the right-hand rear wheel bearing red-rubber sealed on the out side?" 2. " Can't we replace that bearing with the same international (same) number but with seals on both sides?"For example SKF 6202-2RS. Not your bearing unless I got blind lucky but you get the idea. Any bearing house serving the industrial market will undoubtedly have exactly what you need: Motion Industries, Dixie Bearings, etc. 3. "Does this include the left wheel bearing inside the gearcase?" 4. "How do you know the left bearing is bad?"

Question.....are there any rear bearings/seals (right or left) pressed in the actual wheel? If not, where are they located? I'm confused.

No bearings in the wheel of either Yager or DT,just a spline. Right hand bearing in that big sideplate and in the gearbox.

Thanks for the clarification. My mechanic is going to remove the rear wheel tomorrow and see if the inner (left) bearing is shot. He said the outer one is definitely no good.

Thanks again!

I did just that with the big bearing on the Burgman's CVT cover which can destroy itself.
$35++  plus shipping from Suzuki parts house. Bought top quality double sealed bearing made in Japan for 1/3rd the price. Perfect fit...better bearing now in my tool box for the day OEM bearing dies.

I have a 2005 GV250 and the other member is right there is no bearing in the rear as the spine does not allow the wheel to spin.  Bearing rarely go bad in scooters / motorcycles.  The only bearing I have ever replaced are on off road motorcycles / atv's.  Even my '92 bmw k75s the wheel bearings were fine with 64K miles.  Currently, my bearings are fine on my GV 250 with almost 20K miles.

How many miles on your scoot?  Might want to get a new "mechanic".

Turned out that only the outer rear bearing was bad. I saw it myself and it was rusty. My red GV only has 4K miles on it. My mechanic is top notch. He's been working on motorcycles and scooters for almost 25 years. Other than myself, he's the only one I trust working on my bikes.

The wheel does not contain any bearings only the bracket or "FORK ASSY REAR":

96150    96150-62040-10    BEARING BALL RADIAL 6204    $20.34

Bracket:
52000    52000-KKC4-900-NJA    (NJA) SILVER, GLOSS PAINTED STEEL for NH045MA, FORK ASSY REAR

It is a sealed bearing and I still don't see how the grease could have gotten washed out causing the balls to rust.  Was it in an accident or dissembled for some reason?  Can you post a picture of the bearing.

The bearing that was replaced was the one in the bracket. I discarded the bearing at the shop after I looked at it, so I cannot take a pic of it. I bought the bike with less than 100 miles on it, two years ago. The bike must have been left outside for a time since much of the black plastic panels were faded when I bought it. This bike has never sustained any kind of damage or been disassembled.

I yield to your mechanic, Lar. Seems like one of us with a really good call. Hey, 6204 is next close to that 6202 I came up with, huh! That bearing has only one seal on it. The other side is open and depends on the seal in the fork arm and that heavy spacer to keep the grease in and the dirt out (definition of seal).

Karl, that was a good call on your part :D.

I've known my mechanic (John at Cycle Pro) for over 16 years. I'm very fortunate to have found someone locally who will even work on my scooters. I do all the regular maintenance work on my bikes myself, but if there's something more involved, like in this case, I take it straight to him. I recommend him to everyone around here. He's very honest and reasonable with his prices. It's hard to find a good auto mechanic, let alone a good motorcycle/scooter mechanic. The only other place to get my bike serviced around here is the Kymco dealer, and they're almost 30 miles away and very expensive. The other private shops in the area won't touch scooters.

Thanks again for your help!
