2012 Kymco 500i - Will it Fit?
« on: May 05, 2016, 06:09:14 PM »
Going to pickup my new to me 2012 Kymco 500i, will it fit in the back of my 2008 Silverado 6.5 bed?  I'm concerned about width though I've heard in a video it will fit.  I'd hate to have a problem when I get there.

Should fit with the tailgate down. A couple of tie downs from the front bed hooks to the footpegs should secure it. If you are nervious with the tailgate down just use two more tiedowns across the back tires.

Be careful unloading. My f150 tailgate buckled under the weight of my 450i while unloading in the day I bought it. Tailgate doesn't close and latch now on the drivers side

I think if I double up the tailgate cables (2 on each side) and run the unit on 2"x6"'s in the bed of the truck I'd feel a bit more secure.  The boards would reduce the load on the tailgate (the front of the unit would act as support) and leave only a small cantilevered load on the reinforced tailgate supports.  Its all overkill, but if it keeps you from losing your mind while travelling then its worth it.

I have seen some less than stout tailgates (FORD base model F-150's, not bashing) but I think my GM is sturdy enough to handle the reduced load.

I think you are being WAY to conserned about this. If a pick up cant handle an ATV in the back then you have other problems. I've hauled ATV's, Bikes, Side by Sides in Fords, Chevy, Nissan and even in a Dodge Dakota quad cab super short box, with no problems with tailgates or anything else. Load it up, strap it down and haul ass!

Yeah I've hauled ATV's just not these heavy assed UTV's.  I'm paranoid a cable will snap or tailgate will buckle if I hit a bump.
