Downtown for taller riders?
« on: May 08, 2016, 08:09:46 PM »
Hello everyone. I am curious. I am 6ft tall and have about a 33 inch inseam. And long arms. Would the Downtown be too cramped for someone like me?

IMO gonna be very tight....
I'm 5'8' with a 30" inseam and it's a very good fit. Seat is also low.

6` tall with a 32 inch inseam.
I have sat on a Downtown at my dealers shop.
Could not find a comfortable spot for my feet.
Bought the GT and three years later have no regrets.
Not knocking the Downtown. It is a good machine.
Just did not fit me.

The DT 300, is an excellent scooter for smaller riders

I'm with AMAC, had A friend who tried mine, he is 6' 1" and he just looked very cramped, not comfortable at all.

Started out on the LIKE200i....and because of the seat bump and the low bars,  I had to splay my knees on corners to keep from collecting the bar ends. But I quickly learned to do that - and it was no longer a conscious issue.
Bought a Honda Forza where you sit down in the scooter - rather than atop it as on the LIKE. But still my knees were just mm's away from the plastic although well below the bars (because they are bare on a Forza and can be easily rotated up) Quickly learned to be comfortable on the Forza.

The Burgman 400 has a seat bump that can be moved back 100 mm's. Does not sound like much - but my knees are well away from everything now. The ride is good on this scooter, too.

I guess my point is - perhaps you can fix the seat issue or get comfortable with it over time? I would not necessarily discount a scooter just because of the seat if I overwhelmingly liked everything else about it.
A great scooter can be made to work for you if you are able or willing to re-work the seating.

Might be a tough call.

I am looking at the Xciting 250 or a Honda Reflex now. The Xciting would fit me very well but the Reflex has a faster cruising speed and is easier to get parts for. Have to sell some stuff first to raise the capital. Ebay here I come.

Although a few sources give the top speed of the Reflex as over 80, most sources give it as between 75 and 80 which is roughly the same as a he Xciting

Thanks Forbes. You are most likely correct, but I think the Flex could cruise at 70 all day long with no harm. I am not so sure about the Xciting though.

Me either. My Xciting will hold 70 very well. But my mechanic's sixth sense tells me that 65 is about the max for extended cruising.

I know man. I REALLY like the Xciting but I know I will not be  happy unless I am on something that will cruise at 70, not 65. Wish I wasn't so stubborn.  That being  said, I really am enjoying commuting on People 150. It absolutely rocks on surface streets.

I understand. That's the ONLY real issue I have with my Xciting. Although I CAN keep up with interstate traffic . I only feel comfortable doing so for short distances, maybe 10 miles max. I can get up to approximately 78 mph max before the rev limiter kicks in. But it well above redline at that time. I really don't care if the max speed is any higher, I'd just like it if 70 mph or so was not in the red zone.

While off topic my cousin had a Reflex. He is only 5"8" and about 300 LBS.. We went for a ridw a while back abd it had no problem at 70 MPH for an extended time. Even on the DT I am not at aa comfortable cruise at that speed but it is easily sustainable. My guess here is this is from coming from much larger, and more powerful, street bikes.
