First small Road trip
« on: May 14, 2016, 08:12:19 PM »
Hi all,i asked about belt maint the other day. I thank you all for the help. So im planning a camping trip in July. About 300 miles one way.  I can do all freeway in a littlenover 4 hrs or i can do all back roads...about 5 and a half hrs. Never did a trip before. Bike is a 2009 xciting 500ri. Fresh oil, filter, and air filter. New city grips fitted. 7,000 miles on the machine. Trying to decide if i should do it. What do you all think? I appreciate your feedback. You all are so very helpful, for that,i thank you!
All be safe!

Do you have a bunch of shorter trips under your belt so you are comfortable with the bikes reliability?

Ive done 100 or 150 miles before without issue. I do also own a 2009 yamaha majesty with 2,300 miles. Both have new oil,new plug, new airfilters, oil filters. Yamaha is on original dunlop tires still, but showing no cracking or anything.

I have a 2010 Xciting with 7000 miles and I'm planning a long trip this summer too (details to come). So, you won't be the only one trying it this summer.  :)

Your bike isn't even broke in yet? Ride without concern. I have over 63,000 miles on my 2007. Many 700 plus mile days, and my longest day was 1,004 miles. I have rode from Arizona to Michigan and back twice.  :-*

go for it.
I like the back roads. Take your time and enjoy the ride.
Make frequent stops if necessary.
Rest stops will refresh you make for a safer, more enjoyable
trip.

Here's the plan. Mississippi river from one end of Illinois to the other (North to South). Route could alter cause I heard last week that there is a stretch that is good to ride on the Missouri side of the Mississippi. I'm figuring 4 days 3 nights including a trip up to the Chicago suburbs to get my buddy on his HD and then again back home from Cairo, IL.

So excited to hear how your trip goes, wkreps. Dont think i need any maintenance before i go. Lets see,7,000 miles on scoot, new battery last year, new city grips 500 miles ago, amsoil 10w40 and new oil filter,10 miles ago,new air filter,10 miles ago. Air pressure is good, think im good to go.
