Help me diagnose rear wheel wobble.
« on: May 18, 2016, 07:42:09 PM »
Hello! My 2007 Agility 125 is broken, but hopefully not dead!

This paragraph is fluff: On my way to join friends for a scooter ride, I noticed my rear brake lever pull was a bit loose, so at a stop light I got off and spun the adjuster a few times, reached up to test it and it felt much better. I rode 8 more miles at full throttle just fine. Met a couple Grom riders and we rode around down town Minneapolis like hooligans for 2 hours. After doing rear brake lock-ups and some crappy scooter wheelies, the bike was still riding just fine.

This paragraph is the issue:  We got to a place where there was a hidden BMX style pump park with small rolling jumps and berms. I hit a couple small jumps and overshot the landings, coming down pretty hard on the rear. I didn't notice anything wrong yet. But once my buddy and I started riding north for home, he noticed my rear tire was wobbling. I hadn't felt it till he mentioned it, but then it was getting worse and my brake lever felt like it was really tight. We pulled over and noticed it was really hot. I loosened the rear brake adjuster and got back on the road. The wobble got slightly better but in 10 miles it should have been cooled off, yet it still wobbled. I'm guessing one of those hard jump landings somehow caused my rear brake shoes to tighten up against the drum causing it to get super hot.

I know I'm hard on my scooter, and I expect to have to fix it once in a while. But now I need help figuring out what to look for as I tear this rear drive apart. Should I be looking at bearings? Bent final drive shaft? Could the wheel itself get warped by heat? It's strange to me that the wobbling slowly got worse, and then got better a little better after I loosened the brakes. This tells me the drive shaft is likely not culprit, maybe??

If you know any key areas I need to focus on, please share. I'll be tearing into this thing soon. Also, I should probably replace bearings while I'm in there anyways. What size/type bearings do I need?? Is there any other maintenance I should do while I'm in there? Is there any fluids in the rear drive-train?

I'm pretty good mechanically, but have next to zero scooter experience. I'm used to my super sport race bikes, street bikes and dirt bike.

Thanks All!
